Urm

I have been recently looking into UVA as one of my reach schools. My SAT scores are on the higher side of the 50% bracket, however my GPA is poor in comparison. I have a very strong hook as a partial explanation to my poor GPA though. I am from out of state.

My primary question is what importance is placed on being a URM. I am Hispanic, and see that UVA has blatantly on their admissions page, sections for URMs. Is this to give the illusion of diversity or are they trying to actively recruit URM's due to their lower stats. (Hispanics were 4%)

Any advice would be great- Thanks.

there was an article on one of these posts that gives admissions statistics for urms at uva. basicly, if your not black you're in the same boat as whites. it might help a bit, but nothing significant.

What generally happens is that Hispanics are not considered against other students, but rather considered within themselves. They'll review your application taking into account how other Hispanics who apply have done.
