Urm . . .

what top schools (like Notre Dame) would consider asian/pacific islander as URM (better acceptance rate), rather than ASIAN (which would make it harder)?

Well, here's a list of the top 30 Universities and LACs (according to US News & World Report) where the amount of Asian/Pacific Islander students makes up under 10% of the student body (percentages are from collegeboard). I'd imagine that schools with these sorts of percentages would be more likely to view Asians as URMs.

Vanderbilt University... 7%
University of Notre Dame... 8%
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill... 7%
Wake Forest University... 6%
College of William & Mary... 8%

wow, that's well researched, THANKS!

My D attended programs/weekends at Grinnell, WUSTL and Amherst that were directed towards URMs. There were many Asians at all of these programs. She also went to a diversity weekend at Rice, but can't remember if there were Asian students invited to it or not, so check.

You are on the right track, good luck!

PS, you can get the % Asians attending a school from Princeton Review, it's a great way to start your search.
