Urm?

Does being a URM (Afro-Amer.) help one get into Yale? I'm not looking for a cheap way in, I'm just wondering.

Yes, it helps. It would be best to leave it at that.

it helps in the sense that you can be less qualified than alot of non minorities and still have chance.

Ya, it does help…I think its a load of crap but ya. However, was this post really necessary? I mean there are TONS of threads discussing affirmative action. I will say this though, based soley off the “official” RD and SCEA thread for the class of 2013, URMs are not given as much slack at Yale as some other schools like Stanford… there were actually two American Indians who were REJECTED with a 2100+ on the SAT and some blacks and mexicans were actually denied as well. But ya, it will help you unfortunately.

It’s a double edged sword.

It may help you get in to the schools you want… but you’ll always live under the shadow of “he achieved this only because he’s a URM” type of attitude many people seem to have.

Just know that AA exists, and it’s what you do that’s important. I know URMs that have astoundingly mind blowing stats and they would have got in URM or not.
