I'm just wondering... Is international URM considered as URM or just international? Oh yeah by the way, do you think Malay ethnicity is a URM?

On college ethnicity statistics you would be counted as a “nonresident alien” rather then a member of an actual ethnic group (Caucasian, Asian, etc). And nope, international students don’t get a bonus for being from an a certain race. You might get a bonus for being from an underrepresented country though…

If you’re a balck or hispanic intnl you would get a boost. Maylay is not an URM.

How about my country, Indonesia, do you think it’s under represented or not?

You could declare yourself as Pacific Islander which Indonesia is. That would grant you URM status. Indonesia is underrepresented

"If you’re a balck or hispanic intnl you would get a boost. Maylay is not an URM. "

Pure speculation, and totally not true.

But yes people from underrepresented countries, might get special consideration, but it is very different from a boost, that is linked with the American style boost- remember americans don’t rily care about the statistics of international students in any diversity debate. As long as they have a single person from that country they are quite happy…your country can be underrepresented with 1 person, but the school is quite happy- they could still list your country as represented on their brochures

But Indonesia is South East Asia, even though it’s close to Pacific Islander, and I’m not Original Peoples… Which one should I write?

a lot of my malay friends declared pac.islander. u could always try. original peoples is for alaskans/native americans and pacific islanders dont count. ive always though seasians represent vietnamese, thai, cambodians, burmese … if u live in indon, i guess u could declare pacislander. -singapore

Maybe not at the college you work for, but certainly true at the ivy where I worked in admissions. Where do you work BTW?

International students are international students, period. Full answers in the FAQ:
