Hey guys, looking for some insight. I just got my first SAT back and recieved a 1250 (really was hoping for 1400+ range). I was looking at the University of Rochester and was wondering if I had a chance with that score along with my 96 unweighted gpa (finished first semester with 103 weighted). If not, what should I aim for when I retake the test? Thanks
While 1250 is on the lower end (quite likely below the 25 percentile for c.o.2023), UofR seems to be less concerned with specifically SAT scores; that is, they will accept almost any type of standardized testing. If you do well on AP tests, or SAT IIs, for example, those tests can be used in place. That is not to say do not submit all scores that you can. UR likes to see that you improve upon how you’ve done previously. If you’re still concerned about your SAT score, I’d say that a realistic goal is probably mid-high 1300s. Shoot for a 1600 and you’ll do the best that you can. Test scores don’t define you, nor are they the be-all-and-end-all to your application. Especially for a school like UR, extracurriculars, GPA, and the interview are far more important than your test scores. Best luck with your applications and the rest of high school! Don’t forget to have some fun. I’m 29 days from graduation, and I feel like I’ve just wasted all my time working
My son is a completing his freshman year at U of R. The stats that the U of R released on his incoming freshman class (Class of 2022) average SAT score was 1410. According to U of R, this was the 2nd year in a row that incoming class had an SAT greater than 1400. Try prepping for the test and re-take it and see if you can get higher. Strive for at least a 1400. U of R looks at the whole individual, what you bring to the table, what your passions are, and put a lot of weight on your interview. Good luck!
