...what i am interested in, what should i mark when they ask for research interests and "pick a peer group"?

um...whatever ur interested in lol...do u like medical stuff? go for biomedical sciences..or physical sciences..what do you like to study and learn about?

social science and humanities...but i might find myself suddenly interested in Dolly. :D just wnat to know if that tick is binding.

It wouldn't limit what UROP project you work on, although it may limit the kind of people in your peer group for the UC 280 classes.

what do you REALLY have to do for UROP? should I do it for credits? I mean are those easy credits or should I just take a class instead.

btw, there was definitely some weird questions on the online app like what % of people are same race as you in your high school.

ticking the box won't bind you to anything...you can drop out and what not..not a big deal...

if you need the money, then do work study, they pay nicely...credit wise is typically 2-4 credits, 3 hrs per week per credit...so if you're doing 4 credits thats 12 hrs/week which is quite a lot with your other courseload...

UROP is generally very easy to get an A...good chance you will and its a nice GPA booster...I was P I S S E D off when mine gave me a B for the second semester as were everyone else on my team who also got B's...our research advisor turned into a dousche for some reason at the end...but I did get an A 1st sem

When you say they pay nicely, how much better is it compared to other workstudy jobs? I'm leaning towards the credit side because 1 I wanna boost my GPA and 2 I heard that you can get a workstudy job and just do your homework while you're at work.

Usually it's a pretty easy grade -- the main disadvantage in terms of doing it for credits is that they don't count for anything in particular (just free electives) and that it takes up so much time (cause honestly, you're not going to spend at least 3 hours a week per credit for most classes).

I think UROP pays over $8 and hour...I think $8.50? Something around there...a friend of mine did work study at the CCRB and only got paid $6.50/hr

yea like matthew said, credits dont count for anything...kind of stupid there...but if you're premed like me it's a nice way to start research from no experience

Can you make money from UROP without having any work-study funds?

...dunno about that 1

No, you need to have at least some amount of work study in your financial aid package.

btw, for engineering students, how many free electives are you allowed to have?

How competitive are the interviews for the specific projects? I mean, am I going to be stuck researching something leftover and totally boring if I don't have previous research experience or other qualifications? Is UROP preferable other work study jobs or should I take the academic credit and find another job?

Mr100%, it depends on your major in CoE:

most likely you will find a project that interests you within 1-3 attempts so don't worry about it. If you really like a project and can show the person that you're enthusiastic and what not, you won't have a problem with it. It's not reallly competitive at all. I can't imagine someone not gtting a project unless they just have the tendency to exhibit themselves as a complete ass or something, haha
