UROP/work study

hi, i made my schedule and was wondering whether i could fit in UROP.

i'm taking econ 101, anthropology (cultural), great books 191, and spanish 275. this is 15 credits overall. i also have a 1-credit honors seminar. also doing music things that will amount to 5 hours of rehearsal throughout the week.

i got $2500 in work study, so am i better off finding a job or doing UROP? the UROP seminar will fit in my schedule as far as time goes.

thanks for any input.

That sounds like a lot for your first semester. Most freshmen can’t handle that sort of load.

You want to do UROP and pull 15+ credit hours? in addition to work-study?

You need to cut back on the courseload. I would say 9-12 credits for coursework, UROP (if you’re accepted), and the part-time job to keep your sanity.

UROP would be my actual work study since it’s part of my financial aid package.

so it’s either UROP for the $, or an independent job for the $; not both. i need to make the money either way…

How much work is UROP? I was planning on taking 15-18 credits with UROP (no job though). Is that really too much? My planned courseload is hefty, but most (if not all) of the classes I plan on taking should be easy As.

i’m doing 17 credits (all hard engineering classes) + UROP + outside job…it’s not as hard to do as it sounds…trust me ;)

Most first semester freshmen cannot handle that. I would try dropping everything but the classes, and build up from there once you get into the hang of it (as in after the first month).

^ agreed…
