US citizen

Hi all,

So I became a US citizen recently and this was not indicated in my FAFSA. However, none of the colleges that I've applied to on Commonapp asked me for verification of my citizenship, so does that mean that I was not accepted to any of them?

Thanks

Did you apply to schools as international student or US student?

If you had a green card when you filled out the FAFSA or other status that allows FAFSA filing, it won’t make much difference whether you are a citizen or not, though you might want to correct the status just in case it does for any awards that come up. Most schools are not going to much care either if you fall in that status that is not foreign student. It would be a big deal if you just got a green card==you’d be flagged immediately and often not be allowed to even file without one, so that it is a big transition.

I applied as a US student

So they would not notify me regardless?

Very few places distinguish between US citizens and other US applicants. If you think it would make a difference, drop each place an email and let them know about your status change.
