US Election 2008 THREAD

Hey ya'll I just watched the Republican Debate on Fox last night and I am really excited about the prospects for 2008. As a in Vietnam Vet I am interested in the opinions of people related to the armed services. Who is your pick for '08, Rep or Dem?

First post.... with the name "rationalwar"?

<--- Giggles to himself and goes to get the popcorn and beer.

Anybody else want some? You know this is going to get fun even without my participation. :D

Oh yeah, this is exactly what this forum needs; a nice, thoughtful, considered and polite discussion on politics. No doubt the service academy candidates and cadets will be very impressed by our mature discourse.

Let's bring this to a close before it even gets started...

The election will be held. The people will vote. A victor will be declared. The following January, that victor will take the oath as President of the United States.

And as has happened after every election since Washington was elected, the Armed Forces will salute and stand ready to obey the lawful orders of the Commander in Chief, and rightly so.

It doesn't matter what party the victor is from, or what sex they are, or what color, or what creed. They will have been elected, and that's all that matters.

Anything beyond that belongs in the cafe, not here.

This will be my final post in this thread as it is so obviously a setup, and I'm simply not going to play along.

Have a great day. :)

Ron Paul! Flight Surgeon in the Air Force for many years, strong leader with libertarian ideals. He's been on the last two Republican debates and pretty much cleaned house both times. He's currently a Senator for Texas. Very strong supporter of the Constitution, I recommend you check him out!

Being from Texas I can tell you he is not a Senator from Texas.

Ron Paul is a libertarian. Why is he running in the Republican ticket? Fiscal conservatism and non-interventionist foreign policy are not what Republicans have practiced since Eisenhower's times.

What's the joke again. Republicans are Wilsonian on foreign policy and Johnson-Roosevelt on spending. Ya thats sounds right.

Confused has been re-born.....

Zap is right, a setup for sure

Me parrot concurs...... Arrrgggg.

Politics belongs at the Parents Cafe where you will all find plenty of folks who can't wait to give their opinions and are dying to hear yours. No doubt your rational musings there will change minds all across America and the free world. Let's reserve this site for discussions for and about the Service Academy candidates, attendees, and their parents.

Whereas the President will be the Commander in Chief, this election affect the military more than many other segments of the population. This is hardly the first or last political thread. If you don't want to get involved, don't. It's a free country. Let those who wish to discuss, discuss. Don't tell others what to do.

Oh, goodie! That means I can post about other stuff while still not playing along! Cool!

Anyone here enjoy Jameson and Ginger Ale? I acquired a taste for the stuff last week when I had the pleasure of visiting the Old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield, Dublin, Ireland. What a great place!

And yes, it IS right down the street from the Guinness Brewhouse. I went there, too. :D

So, aside from Merlot, what adult beverages do YOU like to enjoy while watching a trainwreck, er, I mean reading a political CC thread? Didn't shogun mention something about amaretto?

Hey Zap, I love Guinness beer; it's a lot like chocolate milk with bubbles. Is it the same there fresh out of the vat?

And speaking of train wreaks, we're having a sidecar rally at Lake Berryessa in Northern California the weekend of the 9th of June. Those sidecars are pretty squirrelly.

And hey, how come the spell checker doesn't work on this site? Well, sometimes it does and some times it doesn't.

Oh yeah, Scotch and gingerale; aka a Highball.

I was introduced to it as a very young lad of about eight at my uncle Lou's house. The parents would drink Highballs, and the children would drink gingerale. Once in a while, if we were discrete enough to keep it from our mothers, my father and uncle would slip us a sip of their Highball. I was hooked from the very first taste and it's still my favorite drink.

Well... all I can say about the stuff is that yes, Guinness IS, in fact, the beer you can chew. :D

Is that what it's called? Over there you ask for a James and Ginger and viola!

Damn...... Making myself thirsty over here! :o

anyone here tried an Irish Carbomb ?
if you have, post back and share your experience :D

Have you tried a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster?

Makes an Irish Carbomb look like a wet firecracker, boy! :D

Strange Fact: The onion in a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster is psychic, concentrate upon the onion and order it to float or sink.

Heh. I had to google that & the Irish car bomb. You'd think I would have known what those were since my job required me to "drink on the job". (wine taster peole! I'm not an alchie)

If you are drinking a PGGB and can still concentrate on the onion, the bartender obviously did not mix it right.

Remember, the effect of a properly-prepared PGGB upon the average carbon-based life form is akin to having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped 'round a large gold brick.

Send it back, have him shot, and order another one. :D

Speaking of Gargle Blasters I just rented the entire 2005-2006 season of Dr. Who. I think I read somewhere that it's the longest running series in TV history. And I don't know who that blond is on the cover but I'll looking forward to finding out.
