US Election 2008 THREAD

Hey, if you don't like it, DON'T CLICK ON IT.

"Being from Texas I can tell you he is not a Senator from Texas."

Pardon me. He currently represents Texas' 14th District.

^^^^Hope you understand the US Government better than this. He represents the 14th district from Texas which does not make him a Senator. He is in the House of Representatives not the Senate, hence a Congressman not a Senator.

Take it to the Cafe please!

Hmmm, there seems to be a bit of interference on this thread.....probably some leakage from the Cafe.....

So anyway, we've been watching the new Battlestar Galactica series. It's not bad but theres are little known and short lived series that was much better. It was called "Firefly" and lasted, I think, less than a season. A feature length movie called "Serenity" was made from it and it was also very good.

I'll bet you can find them both within your public library system Fred56 and I think you'll find them both very good entertainment.

Oh, and the rumor mill says Ron Paul may be barred from the next Republican debate.

Obama "counting" on young voters in New Hampshire By Scott Malone
Sat May 19, 2:16 PM ET

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) talked about the future on Saturday to members of an increasingly influential group that may well decide his own: young voters.

"So much is riding on the decisions that are made and the leadership that is provided by you," he told 1,000 graduating seniors at Southern New Hampshire University, in the state that traditionally holds the first U.S. presidential primary.

Obama, 45, is the youngest of the candidates seeking the major parties' nomination for the 2008 White House race and would be the United States' first black president.

"We're counting on you to restore the image of America around the world," Obama said. "We are counting on you to bring this planet from the brink of a climate-change crisis.

"We are counting on you to help fix a health-care system that's leaving too many Americans sick or bankrupt or both."

While he didn't make an overt bid for votes during the commencement address, the Illinois senator chose his audience wisely. Younger voters are particularly important for Obama to focus on, according to political analysts.

"It's a critical part of his campaign," said John Della Volpe, polling director at Harvard University's Institute of Politics. "He has a significant lead among that demographic group, especially the young people on college campuses. That is a critical part of his strategy and a critical part of his base."

Obama climbed onto the national stage with his 2004 address at the Democratic National Convention. He did well in early fund-raising and is trailing front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton in many polls.

However, an April poll by the Harvard institute showed him leading the New York senator by 35 percent to 29 percent among likely Democratic voters aged 18 to 24.

"He was very impressive," said Kristen Franco, 21, of Bedford, New Hampshire, who had come to see her boyfriend graduate. "I really felt that he was able to relate to us."

The Harvard poll showed former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani leading among young Republican voters, with 31 percent to Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record)'s 18 percent.

GROWING IN IMPORTANCE

After mostly waning since the Vietnam War, the political power of youth voters is growing again.

Energized by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, America's youth have leaned Democratic in recent elections, pollsters say, providing an attractive lure for Obama and other candidates to court them in the race for their party's nomination.

About 49 percent of Americans aged 18 to 29 cast a vote in the 2004 presidential election, up from 40 percent four years earlier for the highest turnout since 1992, according to Young Voter Strategies.

In November's congressional election, 58 percent of that age group voted Democrat.

"Candidates are starting to understand that they need to court this very large electorate," said Kathleen Barr, research and media director at Young Voter Strategies, affiliated with George Washington University.

"Hope you understand the US Government better than this."

I was saying "Pardon me" in the same sense as "Sorry, I was mistaken." I thought he was a senator, but didn't double check, no need to get fussy.

Bill0510 & Zaphod-

We did the same thing, especially for soccer season. They used all of my disks for the end of year video. Not because I'm good, I'm not, the picture quality was FANTASTIC. I did get some stills, though, that were dynamite! But that was just luck, epecially with all of the cold and shivering.

Those are the best little cams! I'm bringing mine to I-Day, along with a few back up charges.

PM and let me know what kind you have and where you did your research. We did ours at Consumer Reports

I got the JVC GZ-MG555U since it had the highest-megapixel resolution.

I am currently going through the motions of getting the thing to work with my Mac. While the camera is a dream, the video I am downloading and converting is not coming out as clearly as I had hoped.

Will advise.

I will say one thing, though.... Compared to my old camera (a Sony from 2000 which is 3 times as big and more than twice as heavy), this thing is a real arm-saver!

When you figure IMovie out let me know... I'm a master on slide shows and such on IPhoto but haven't got this IMovie thing down. Wouldn't trade my Mac for anything and my "lower half Youngster" wishes he had his Mac too.

We went with a Canon and have to figure it out to get the Herndon clips into a movie. Too bad he won't be able to watch it on youtube!

I got Final Cut Express. I can chromakey and do other cool stuff. Imovie is nice but Final Cut rocks.

Guliani vs. Paul
Neoconservativism vs. Non-Interventionism

I have a little 5 megapixel Sony that can take stills and video. It is very easy to upload both to my computer. I love it! But I have to admit I do not use the video option very much. I miss too much life while I am behind a video camera!

usservicemom, I have a similar camera. I loved it at USAFA orientation, and when there was something big that I wanted to take a picture of, I used the video feature to make a nice panoramic video. I think it'll come in handy next year:)

Okay, I have a reason to get better with the video. Thanks! ;)
