US History Essays?

For the DBQ and two other essays are there any specific recommended formats? My teacher is extremely proud of the fact that she doesn't teach to the test, so I really have no experience with AP format essay questions. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

my teacher is stuck on the 5-paragraph (intro, 3 body, conc.) setup
and if u have any more (say 6,7P)....the highest he'll give is like a 4/9...

he says its alright on the DBQ (but not advised) and on the essays its strictly prohibitted

does that bear any truth?

Of course not. Write as much as you need, but don't ramble.

Go to apcentral, register, and practice with the APUSH essay questions from previous years. Be sure to look at the sample essay responses AFTER you write your own.

Question for those who took AP Euro and APUSH:

Is the format for DBQ's basically the same between the two tests? Like doing POV and using the majority of the docs (half the total docs plus 2) the same? Are there any major differences in grading?

For APUSH you are supposed to bring in outside information besides the docs to receive a full score, while in euro you can just use the docs

Thanks (10 char)

Ever_after here's my two cents. Write down as much as you can explaining your point and relating it to outside info in the DBQ. Paragraph number doesn't really matter but make sure you can introduce your point and conclude it. For my DBQ last year i think i wrote a total of like 8 paragraphs. I got a 5, but remember content is more important than length. by the way I was just curious but has your teacher warned you about having a DBQ on the Progressive Era? My teacher did that last year but so far it seems that for the past two years the DBQ's have been running in order for example in 2004 it was Pre-Revoluton and last year it was the Revolutionary Period. Sorry but just a random thought.

Yeah, I never wrote an official timed writing or a DBQ until the day of the test...my teacher is a bit lax but he teaches more about concepts, so it wasn't that hard. I got a 5, but I think the main thing is that it doesn't matter how many paragraphs you have as long as it makes sense and you cover everything, and you should document from almost all of the documents. And my teacher warned us last year about having a progressive DBQ, so I studied up on that...turns out it was about colonial america. Oh well, it still wasn't that bad.
