US History SAT II Self-Study

^Is it possible for someone like me, who has only a year of US History school education? Thanks.

Definitley...my school doesn't offer AP classes and our US history class was a joke, but i decided to study for the USH SAT II on my own and i got a 740...so it's definitley possible. Good luck!

it's just a lot of memorization. i took the ap class and didn't study from a prep book or anything. i got a 750. it's more of a knowledge thing

yea - definitely
i took ap, and granted my teacher was awesome, but i also used kaplan - it was a lot like the actual test, and i think a couple of questions used the same information - i'm a history buff, but i'm not the kind of person who knows everything, but i got an 800. i think you'll be fine.

What's the best book to get? Does the collegeboard offer any official books to study for this SAT II?

umm. i scored 790, and i recommend this: if you have lots of time, get AMSCO AP book and read over it 2~3 times. it's very well-divided into various periods, so trend is easy to memorize. As of practice tests, try AP REA which is little bit hard and PR AP or SAT book. These questions (esp. REA) are a lot harder than real SAT II questions.

get Sparknotes - which is almost identical to the type of question on the SAT II- i got a 700( thought i was gonna do worst) - without studying just taking the practice tests- if u actually review- u can def. score higher

well i got a 790 and i think you could do it but you have to know a lot of stuff. Read AMSCO and REA since it has a lot of information, and do some practice tests on PR

Amsco has everything you'll need to know, for either the AP or the SAT II. I used it and the Princeton Review APUSH book (has nice, short summaries of historical periods) to study for both exams, and I got an 800. I guess it just depends on if you have a mind for history or not, because I didn't find the SAT II that difficult (it just covers a broad range of topics), but I'm a history person.
