Is it worth taking the U.S. History Subject Test if I’m pursuing a STEM major? I’ve taken Physics and Math II, but would taking a third test, in history, benefit me?
Look carefully at the requirements/recommendations of the schools you plan to apply to. Do any require/recommend 3 SAT II exams? Do any require/recommend a humanities SAT II?
Most UC’s, for example, recommend subject tests in both math and a science. My question is would taking an additional test, and doing well, in History help my application even if I’m going into a STEM major?
The only benefit is if the USH Subject Test score is higher than one of the other 2 and the college does not require a math and a science, in which case the highest 2 will be considered.
If you are asking if colleges will be dazzled by taking more than the required number or showing academic diversity, then the answer is no.
I wouldn’t really advise taking the USH Subject Test if you’re not going to be a History major/minor.
Not many schools (besides Georgetown) strongly recommend 3 Subject Tests, so Math and Physics are fine. If the scores are 750+ then you’re pretty much done. Just focus on the rest of your application.
There is no need to take multiple SAT subject tests and it’s not going to impact admissions as much as you think.
Check the college requirements and take only what’s needed.
Typically, Math and Science is recommended for STEM
Some colleges grant a language waiver based on SAT II.
