@lostaccount, What do you think the penalty should be for theft? The students were charged with petty larceny and given a ticket to appear in court on the charges. These are legal adults who knowingly broke the law and the dining hall manager chose to press charges. Seems appropriate to me.
@lostaccount Do you have a news article? Most colleges now give students “to go” containers and taking food from the cafeteria is acceptable. It was mentioned on all the school tours we took. Maybe they high jacked a cube truck full of mozzarella?
I agree though. The searching of dorm rooms for alcohol and drugs without probable cause really bugs me. No wonder students can’t wait to move off campus.

The last sentence tells me perhaps the manager of the dining hall was sick of repeated incidents of theft. I’m not sure if it’s the case here, but some dining halls are run as independent cost centers, with their managers responsible for making a profit, or at least running even.
The Bing Cafeteria is run by Sodexo under a contract. They likely take theft seriously since it directly cuts into profits.
Can’t believe that people are finally being held accountable for their actions. Actions have consequences.
He was given an appearance ticket which is appropriate - it isn’t as if he was locked in jail.
Of course this has nothing to do with this thread.
But neither does the headline since the person was arrested for that reason.
So maybe we can talk about puppies instead?
@skyoverme Trite comment. But it must make you feel good to post it. Student loan debt will bankrupt the US. It is now larger than mortgage debt and we know what happened when that time bomb went off.
Not sure how student loan debt will bankrupt the US but lets assume for the moment it will. What should we do about it?
Anybody who fails to pay off his student loan should have his cheese sticks garnished.
