US New Rankings

HAHAHA @ notrichenough links - interestingly, it ranks my D’s choice, Wellesley, above Harvard!!! Just goes to show how subjective ranking are.

Maidenmom - my D is at Wellesley, and she has a few friends there who did choose Wellesley over Harvard. And why shouldn’t they? You know, when Consumer Reports rates cars, it’s still up to me to decide whether I value looks, or fuel efficiency, or repair records, or cars-made-in-the-US. It’s amazing to me that there are people who are really so stupid as to think that there is one universal ranking that all should follow and that #1 should trump #2 and #2 should trump #3. Use the rankings for the info they provide, which is tremendously helpful, and to understand general bands of quality. Honestly, the people who are really taking minute differences seriously are just sort of screaming “hick follower” about them.

If you go to my profile, you can take a look at one of the several posts I’ve made in the results threads on the college pages. That will have my full info.

Quick info though:

SAT: 2240 (720 Math, 760 for both CR and WR)
GPA: 3.85
APs: English Lit, English Lang, Spanish and Human Geography (all 5); four other subjects pending
SAT II: 800 World History, 740 Biology, 760 Math II

I had very strong recs, especially from my teachers, and the colleges I had interviews for all seemed to go well.

I had really good feedback about my essays, especially my common app essay, for which I wrote about a family tragedy and how it has inspired me to get the most from life I possibly can, and give us much as I can too.

Fairly strong ECs, but it was my volunteering that I think really “sold” me, and at the time of application I had received Silver and Bronze President’s Volunteer Service Awards.
