US News 2010 Top 10 National Universities

Saw this in a Books a Million last night:

Harvard University

Princeton University

Yale University

California Institute of Technology

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

University of Pennsylvania

Stanford University

Columbia University

University of Chicago

Duke University

Haha, that list is ugly. If it’s true many people will be angry that Duke dropped and Penn is on par with Stanford.

And I don’t see how you saw only the top ten in a book and not the rest of the rankings.

its coming out in like 30 mins. chill bro.
we’ll all see :)

this is the highest upenn will go though, because usnews will lose credibility if upenn goes higher than HYP.

I’m a Columbia alum and was only really interested in the Lions. How many do you think you could remember the day after (in the correct order)?

I’m seeing a trend of more and more ties to make buyers happy.

for some reason the new rankings is not showing. maybe only prem accounts can view them?

^Yeah I think at midnight, they’ll show it to the public. At least that’s what someone said on the other thread.

Uh, folks–this is the 4th time in 8 years that US News has ranked Penn at #4, either tied with or ahead of Stanford, MIT, and/or CalTech:

[U.S. News Rankings Through the Years](http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:DjJZAS7ZGZcJ:chronicle.com/stats/usnews/index.php%3Fcategory%3DUniversities+chronicle.com/stats/usnews/index.php%3Fcategory%3DUniversities&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us)

It ain’t exactly news anymore. :)

And the official rankings won’t appear on the US News web site until around midnight, tonight (just look at the US News home page and you’ll see the countdown clock).

^Well, then it must mean something when so many still doubt that… JMHO.

And the coutdown clock official says negative numbers already. So technically they should be available.

^ Look at the clock again. It’s counting down to midnight.

^Interestingly, it still says negative numbers. Is it possible that it’s because I’m in Asia and it’s already past midnight? (Then they should really change that… It shouldn’t be too difficult.)

^Definitely one of the most improved, considering it was consistently outside the top-10 until a little over a decade ago,

But is it counting down (decreasing time)? Or up (increasing time)? Your location shouldn’t affect the countdown, it seems to me. :)

It’s getting more negative; as in, -1 hr -> -2hr… Very interesting.

Well, US News has ranked Penn at 4-7 every year for 13 straight years (including this one), so the whole improvement thing is kinda becoming an old story–at least in terms of the US News ranking. :)

It was basically where Cornell is now then magically jumped to #7 in 98 where it’s basically been ever since (save some appearances as #4). Maybe whatever methodology they changed to ensure HYP were #1-3 and to keep Caltech from #1 also helped Penn stay solidly in line with Stanford, MIT, and Caltech.

^ Penn’s actually been at #5 and #6 during that time, also (see the link in my post #9, above). But this now makes it 4 times at #4.

So many Penn ■■■■■■ this time of year!

so how would ure rankings look like?
i think its a pretty difficult job.
