<p>sat ranges are a good way of gauging the raw intellectual capabilities of a student body</p>
<p>however, I do agree that selectivity and graduation rates can sometimes cause “fishy” rankings. but it’s still a valid way of looking at most schools, except for a few exceptions</p>
<p>Regarding the low placement of Stanford and MIT:</p>
<p>These rankings incorporate the proportion of international faculty as a criterion (with schools with more international faculty being considered better). In this category, Stanford and MIT score 26 and 33 respectively whereas Harvard and Chicago (for comparison) score 87 and 78 respectively.</p>
<p>Other schools negatively affected by the inclusion of this criterion include Columbia (29), Duke (30), JHU (30) and Cornell (28).</p>
