US news ranking

anyone know when the '07 US news ranking will come out?
so…davis people can stop explaining about the error to irvine people haha

I think it comes out in the Fall

yea, those students from UC Irvine started to be too cocky. I hope moving to Devision I will also help to UC Davis

I'm going to love the look on the faces of some of my cocky cousins that go to UCI when the 2007 report comes out and Davis jumps like 6-7 spots. In case some of you guys didn't know, this year UC Davis was ranked 48th because of a mistake, and it should be somewhere around 42nd. With some other tweeks here and there that UCD has made, I wouldn't be surprised if it tops UCI for the 2007 report.

Also, this is a little off topic, but I find it weird how every person that I know who got denied from UC Davis got into Irvine. Then again, this is about 10-15 people that I know, so it might be a little trend in my own little world.

I agree UCI students are getting cocky about the rankings. UCD is a fricken awesome school. I'm going to UCI myself, but I say the two schools are so close. I wouldn't take a distance of 2-3 ranks so seriously.

Nah, I'm seeing this as well. I know maybe half a dozen people who got into UCI and not UCD, but none the other way around.

I still believe, in a way, UCI is easier to get into. I know a decent amount who got into UCD but not UCI. I'm one of the people who got into UCI but not UCD (pretty much because I picked engineering for both majors at UCD). These people were pretty frustrated and told me they would trade admissions anyday =. UCD has a point system, while UCI does not (more subjective system). Many things can happen because of this. Both schools also receive the same amount of applicants and admit the same amount of people. UCI has a different admissions process meaning they have a possibility of leaning towards extracurriculars more than academics at the lower line of applicants (people with lower academics tend to have many hardships and extracurriculars). This could be why people with lower GPAs and SATs get into UCI but not UCD (UCD's point system stresses academics and doesn't stress hardships too much). Anyway, there are many factors to it. Have fun at UCD you guys :\; I'll be missing out.

If you look at the admissions numbers UCI actually had slightly higher SATs this year than Davis.

eh, that's not really saying much. (the bit about the SAT's.)

go wherever you'll succeed.

it will be interesting to see which school is on top by 2010

This is easy to predict, students go where the good sports are. Strong sports programs build a school's reputation. Only nerds disagree with this.

then i'll have to disagree. just take a look at UCSD -- no pigskin, but has quite a reputation for the sciences.

heck, their mascot's not even a real animal.

Haha, doraemon has a point.

Haha, but seriously, if SD had sports they would ALREADY be in the same league as CAL and UCLA. The main reason people prefer CAL and UCLA has nothing to do with academics. Everyone knows SD is a great academic school. The majority want a great environment (ie sports) too. Build a great academic program and nerds will come. Build a great sports program and everyone will want to attend.

@Voice: I feel so dumb for thinking that Cal Tech, MIT, CMU, U Chicago, Emory, UCSD, NYU, etc were schools worth attending. You can't be a good school without strong athletics! pffft!

Apples and oranges chowdy. We are talking about UC's and the kind of students who attend them. Sure there are students at every UC who could get into any of the schools you listed, but not most of them. Poll people and see what I mean.

Actually, I don't think it's easier to get into UCI. I got into UCD, but for UCI, I was only accepted for the winter quarter.

it really depends on who you meet. my friend got into ucd and UCSD but didnt make it in to uci then another friend got into UCSD but not ucd and uci...so yeah...i don't know what to think except that the adcoms are weird!

The comprehensive review for each school is very different. For example, UCSD's point system stresses different aspects compared to UCD's point system. However, anyone who got into UCSD, should get into UCD because their point systems share some basic parts. UCD has lower cutoffs... Anyway, UCI seems like they have a subjective system, so rejected students or winter admits can be a result of random things such as them believing UCI is a backup school or having little space left.

that sounds reasonable, except that he got rejected from both i and d but not sd. it makes you wonder sometime.
