US news ranking

nope, don't see ucsd dropping down that low nor do i see any other uc replacing it.

face it, uci, ucd and ucsb will be stuck in the same tier forever... everr.. everr!!

OK- a few things. UCI is actually technically only 1 spot above Davis and SB because there is a 3 way tie before Davis. Secondly, if you look at other rankings- Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD and Davis are far and away ahead of the other UCs. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2006/0609.national.html

Davis cracks the top 10 schools in the country. Cornell is the only IVY ranked above Davis.

In fact, UCI is ranked 62 spots below Davis. So if all you smart UC students do the math and average Washington Monthly's rankings with those of US News- Davis would still be far and away above UCI. Look, the bottom line is they are all good schools and don't choose your school based on the rankings. And all you non-Cal/ UCLA students dishing out flak on Davis....I have one word for you.....FOOTBALL.

okai...heres what i dont get...last year they reported the wrong thing so thats why we dropped alot, but this year, after reporting the correct number, we only improve by one rank?

Pay attention to what you are looking at. UCD is only one rank under UCI in this new report. There is a three way tie. This is exactly as predicted; this year the schools are within two rankings of each other. Absolutely insignificant statistically.

Inconceivable!

How does washingtonmonthly rank the colleges? Harvard at 28th? Penn at 30th? And Princeton at 43rd!? Hmmm...

Read their methodology:

They are not ranking based on prestige/research/etc, but rather the overall 'good' they've served the nation. The methodology link elaborates quite a bit on that.

Umm didn't UCD rank so poorly last year because they didn't send correct info or something? That would explain UCD actually going up one rank.

I believe it was the fault of USNEWS and not UCD; either way, it does explain that--if UCD had been one rank below UCI, they'd have dropped a few places down this year, as well. :

You need to have some perspective here dudes. You could just as easily say that other schools worked harder to improve and therefore rose up in the ranks. If the UC's did not make as many efforts to adjust then they dropped not due to poor performance standards but rather due to insouciance.

UCs don't "work" for rankings. They "work" for the state of California.

for some reason i think the us news ranking seems more believable
