Where can I see the whole list of the US news rankings of graduate programs in biology for colleges? because on the website, it only shows the top three schools. does anyone have the book or something and that they can tell me the whole list for biology graduate programs?

scorpio08,

Instead of relying on such an imprecise tool, you should talk to your professors or grad students. They'll be much more likely know what programs are best for you.

^^I'm not in college yet.

Then don't worry about grad school. Worry more about undergrad.

Or you could just help her anyway. She can find out about both undergrad and grad school (they are not mutually exclusive), no need to crush someones enthusiasm.

right, and besides, someone else has just sent me a list of the rankings for grad schools in biology.

can you post them?

mathtastic_nerd,

I'm not trying to "crush her enthusiasm." I'm trying to tell her not to worry about grad school. It's at least four years off and odds are that four years from now she won't be looking at doing the same thing anyway.

You're right, they're not necessarily mutually exclusive. But worrying too much about grad school now can be unhealthy and distracting.

UCLAri,
I don't think it hurts to think about grad school in high school. Of course, she is not looking seriously (or at least should not be) yet and just wants an overview of the top Biology schools. Althought USNews may not be fully accurate it can be used as a general guide to gauge the best schools.

She may gain insight into possible 3-2 programs and such as well.

idalaunva,

There's a big problem though-- the USNews rankings of graduate programs are pretty dismal. It captures pretty much none of what people look for in top grad programs.

RE: Rankings

Jeez, all I wanted to see was a ranking of the graduate programs for biology at colleges because that will allow me to kinda see how their undergrad programs are as well. Since most rankings only deal with graduate programs, it's really hard to find one that ranks undergrad programs. And I'm perfectly aware of the fact that the US news rankings are not perfect. None of the rankings from anywhere are perfect. but you can compare results from mutiple rankings and see which ones come out top each time.

scorpio08,

The thing is, however, that USNews' grad rankings do not necessarily translate into the quality of the undergrad program. Grads and undergrads want very different things.

Berkeley's graduate programs are all top 5 or top 10, but it's hard to argue that Berkeley is by default a better place for undergrad than Columbia or Brown or Princeton.

That's what I'm trying to point out here. Don't worry about graduate stuff. It's too far off and not very meaningful for you.

I'm with UCLAri here. (Not that anyone asked for my two cents.) Undergrad and graduate education are entirely different animals. Many institutions with the best undergrad programs in the nation (in one particular discipline or another) do not even have graduate programs.

Yea, I guess you're right UCLAri.
