US News

...So apparently Tufts is once again at #27 this year (according to a post in the general forum), with a PA Score of 3.7 (the lowest of any in the top 30). It amazes me how much I have seen the school flourish even in the past few years in just about every way (selectivity, endowment, course/program offerings, etc) yet the rankings simply do not reflect this.

Either way- I just thought that I would be the first Jumbo to go all out and say that I'm still d*mn proud of Tufts. It's definitely on the rise and deserves more recognition than it receives, and whether it takes US News 1 or 5 years to realize that doesn't matter- The students and alumni know where it really belongs and the quality of education I have received has far surpassed my already high expectations.

GO TUFTS!!!

We don't know if this is accurate. It may seemingly be conjecture.

Okay the person who posted this put a picture up of the front page of the 2007 article - it's genuine I think (leaked heh).

Very, very well said GoJumbos :D

The PA score still doesn't make sense, especially with the kind of recognition that Tufts receives among the learned & professional community. Apparently, an administrator in North Dakota (for example) is still "qualified" to rate our school (ha).

:D Exactly! And we all know the great stats :) (like the 26% overall admit rate and our high SAT averages, which match G-town, JHU, etc.).

By the way, Checking E-News this morning, the new CEO & chairman of Pfizer is a Tufts graduate :)

okay, but this constant praise for ourselves makes it seem like we HAVE to tell ourselves this. Like we need to convince ourselves for some reason. why not just accept that Tufts is awesome and the rankings don't matter?

Back in the mid-90s ('96 maybe?) Tufts was #22. So very sad that it's not up there in the top 20, because it really is of that quality.

I saw the thing about the Pfizer CEO. He's also a Harvard Law grad, which probably helped him along a bit. ;)

Well, I believe this is the first time in a few years the Peer Score has climbed (albeit only from 3.6 to 3.7), so things are moving in the right direction on that front. Also I'm impressed by Tufts huge jump in the selectivity ranking from 25 to 17. If I'm not mistaken these two portions are worth a lot in calculating the overall score, so it is kind of surprising Tufts was only able to keep pace with its competitors who obviously are improving by the criteria of US News as well.

How did you get ahold of the selectivity ranking/PA score?

Posts #6 and 24 in the main thread about the rankings.

yeah it's weird how our PA score doesn't remotely correlate to our other stats. I think things will be different in a few years, once the word gets out that we're no longer an "ivy league backup school" in part because all ivies and near-ivies have gotten harder to get into. Still, we should take all rankings with a large grain of salt. All things considered, I still think US News is better than SJT, and I don't know enough about Princeton Review's rankings to comment on them.

You know, lots of my best friends in Boston are Harvard students, and though I must admit that at first I may have suffered from an inferiority complex, I've come to realize that I'm just as smart or smarter than many of the people I've met who study there. Great students go to places like Harvard, Tufts, and the State U of Mississippi. Your education is what you make out of it and rankings shouldn't tell you that.

Hear, hear! :)
