anyone know where i can get the enumeration of colleges US newsweek posted for prior years? 1998-2006 i think? where could i see the rankings for those previous years. i think by looking at the trend we can determine which colleges are exalted and the ones demoted.

US Newsweek? Aren't you merging two separate magazines?! hehe

Anyway, there have been very few changes in over rankings since the late 90s.

Between 96 and now (10 years) the rankings have been consistent. I think it was on a Florida University website that had a compiled list of all rankings. If you averaged the ranks, you'd find HYPSM and Cal Tech in the top 6, then Penn, Duke, Columbia, and Dartmouth. The biggest dropper has been Berkeley and the biggest gainer has been Washington University at St. Louis. Hopefully someone can find that website I mentioned, I forget where it was but the link was posted here a while back.

Wow, Penn has gone from 16th in 1994 to 4th in 2005, while Rochester has gone from 15th in 1991 to 34th in 2005. WashU has moved from 24th in 1991 to 11th in 2005.

Thanks theoneo
Wow in 1991 Stanford was ranked 2nd. and Caltech 1st in 2000 (it was 7th the year before). There have been some fluctuations in US News but not that much especially in the top 7 or so. I think UPenn and WashU moved up the most.
PS: can anyone locate 2002-2005?

whoa! Duke was tied for first 1998! I like that year's ranking haha

this has been discussed:

those rankings are so random and weird...what I take from them is that the top 25 is pretty consistent and attending any of those schools is a major accomplishment, and it looks like the only ones that have made a rise over the years are WUSTL and Penn.

Cornell needs to regain the 6th spot and higher! :)
