My daughter was just selected to participate in the Senate Page program for Fall 2012. Anyone have children who've gone through the program (particularly Spring or Fall sessions) and have advice to offer? I'd really appreciate it. Thx.

Tell her congratulations!

I’ve applied for the fall sessions as well but through Senator Akaka (Hawaii) I haven’t heard anything back yet though, I’m out if the country and can’t call the office. Which senator appointed her?

I just found out I will be there for the fall session. I am super excited.

My son did it in the fall of his junior year and had a tremendous experience. Being a page during the school year though (as opposed to summer which my other son just did and loved too) makes for a heavy load, balancing a demanding and erratic work schedule with fairly challenging academics. Days are long since classes are held at 6 am before the senate is in session at 10. And senate work can go late into the evening, although they rotate the kids’ schedules I believe. The kids live in a lovely building walking distance to the capital and are very closely supervised. Both of my sons loved meeting kids from all over the country, some of whom have remained friends. Even though the course load is necessarily lighter than at a regular high school, I believe colleges understand the nature of the experience and the caliber of the teachers and fellow students, so Jr. year academic rigor is not lost.

Feel free to message me if you want more information. I think it is a great opportunity.

Hi! I was a page just this past spring. I’m currently a senior in high school now.

My major advice, keep your attitude up! The page program is incredibly rigorous, no matter your background. The school and the staff are quite set on maintaining discipline, so always follow the rules! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

oh and congrats!

Thanks for the advice!

I just got selected to be a page for the Spring 2013 session for Senator Reid…do we have to buy our own uniforms?

Congratulations! No you do not buy the suits you will wear. You will receive information with all the details (and there are many) from the Page Program closer to your start date. From our experience, the program is run very well, and all the details are very well covered. Enjoy your experience - my sons had a tremendous time!

I got the handbook and I was wondering when they say no cameras with video…does it have to be incapable of video or are we not allowed to use the video function?

This has probably been discussed before, but I am on a time crunch and can’t read all of the other posts.

I am a junior in HS in NJ. I want to apply for the summer program. What are my chances? In terms of my senators (S. Bob Menendez and S. Frank Lautenberg) actually receiving a page for the summer. Should I apply out of state?

P.S. I meet all the requirements.
