Hi-I was looking into the US Senate Page Program for the Fall of 2013, and I was wondering when was a good time to start an application, and try and get sponsored by a senator. Also, I'm from Wisconsin, and unfortunately Herb Kohl-who has sponsored people before-is ending his term in January. I also know that seniority is a big thing when it comes to your chances, and the other Wisconsin senator is Ron Johnson has not been around for very long. If I were to try and get a senator to sponsor me from out of state, what state would most likely appoint someone from out of state? I am extremely interested in this program, I have a 4.0 and I am involved with Model UN, Student Government, Mock Trial, School Newspaper, and various sports/instruments.
Thanks!

I’m going to be a page in the spring…I live in MD and neither of them were eligible. I got selected by Senator Reid, mostly by chance. First you should contact your state’s senators and definitely ask…but most of the selection process for Fall 2013 would be next spring and summer. If you fins out Sen. Johnson is ineligble at that point begin to call other senators…as in every senator’s office and check their websites to see if they don’t take out of state applicants. If that fails…which it did for me. Call both the minority and majority leaders’ offices and apply through them. I was told I was a backup applicant for Reid and he ended up sponsoring me…fortunately!
A lot of it’s luck, but just keep trying.
