US student given a 'maybe'?

<p>US high school student and this morning the status changed to this:</p>

<p>Our initial evaluation of your application indicates that you are a strong candidate; however, due to the competitive nature of the program we aren’t able to provide you with a decision quite yet. Once we have determined the number of spaces remaining in our program, we will advise you as to whether your application for admission is successful. You do not need to submit further information in support of your application. You can continue to check the status of your application here on the Student Service Centre.>></p>

<p>Is this common? It seems like a weird maybe to me. Has anyone else had this response and then went on to be accepted??? And, if you know, about how long to have that change made? I find this status somewhat maddening. Oh…I applied for Bachelor of Arts.</p>

<p>I would probably call them and ask.</p>

<p>It just means that you are on a waiting list and you have to wait until people accept or decline their offers of admission. If they decline you may or may not be sent an acceptance request. It all depends on the amount of people that decline the offer. So, my advice, wait it out like it says, and check back often</p>
