US universities after Olevels><??
Hey all I am a student from Singapore and I have completed my Olevels in 2011, now on track to complete my Alevels. My Olevels were quite decent. I took 10 subjects and got 10 As. Actually Olevels were quite a breeze for me. BUT I have a feeling I am going to screw my Alevels and I think I wouldnt stand a good chance to apply for local Universities. SO here is the question.

Can I apply to US universities with my 10-disctinction Olevel scores and an SAT of 2130? If yes, what US universities can I go? Yeah..I know no chance for tier-one schools but any decent ones?

Also, I am planning to study petroleum engineering. in my case which US university offering petroleum engineering may be a safety college for me? Anyone in Canada?

Thank you very very much for your information and help! I really apprecaite that!!!!

Actually I wont exactly “flunk” my Alevels… but the chances are they are going to be B average…anyway…thats because I dont want to try hard enough, given that I have heard of friends going to top canadian universities with Olevels only…What univeristies in US or canada with Petroleum engineering can I get in? Thanks for your response!!

University of Oklahoma, Louisiana State, Texas A&M, University of Alberta, and UT-Austin all offer superior programs in the field with ample opportunities for research.

I don’t know how Olevels compare to an American GPA, but assuming you have what could be considered a B+ average, Oklahoma and LSU are safeties.

hi thanks for your reply…but my question is do I stand a chance to get into pete schools with my Olevel scores(10As) and SAT 2130 only…with no Alevels??

If the university requires my college coursework, I will be sending them my course work last year AFTER I completed my Olevels. I got a B average though… I have heard of all the universities you mentioned there. but do I stand a chance to get in.? Thank you very much…and ooops, the question is quite long :P

I heard that JC really tries to deflate your grades… are u in the top few jcs? why don’t you just work hard and do well for A’s? BBBB might be decent enough to get into local u.
Or consider retaining? Since u did well for o’s u must be pretty smart :)

Yeah the third one who churns out nothing but victors wannabe, you know what I mean… I have heard of way too many students in our shool who managed to get the only As they ever had in the two years only in the actual Alevels. Yeah, that being said…which pete school do you recommend me to go?? PS: I don’t want to try hard enough…life is not all about mugging…if olevel is good enough

Sheesh u r so lucky!! Haha I really wanted to go to your school but I live too far away and it didn’t make sense to travel all the way there…
Anyway, yeah I guess you’re right. We’ve been taught to be nerds but that doesn’t mean we have to be.
You can try purdue - I heard they’re good for engineering. A student got in a couple of years ago and he/she’s doing pretty well there.
Actually I don’t really know what schools to recommend cause I’m not keen in petroleum engineering, or science for that matter. Anyway good luck with your apps!
