USA June 2011 SAT Critical Reading Thread

Goodatmath I concur with you on melancholy

I put harsh but accurate, melancholy. gah.

Everyone on here needs to make sure the answers are right, and not just jump on a bandwagon…In may there was a “list” turned out a good amount of them were wrong. According to the list i should have gotten around a 580 - got a 650. So this whole discussion is…bleh

And the correct answer was not melancholy, it was a change in strategy i’m pretty sure. From that point before, there was no showing of any tension, but then it started, hence a change in the passage.

melancholy. well thats what i put.

Was the Indian girl a mediator? (I was between that and caretaker…I changed it to mediator because she’s been away from her mother for a long time, so she couldn’t be her caretaker, right?)

Censorship - what were the options for that one with harsh but accurate, etc

I put caretaker

put melancholy as well. and caretaker for that one

The Indian girl was a caretaker. it said at the one moment, not her entire lift, so she could be a caretaker.

i put caregiver because she was making sure her mother was healthy

I’m pretty sure it was not melancholy, but that it marked a shift in the strategy. In literary terms, strategy is the construction of the passage. Before that point, nobody knew that there were tensions between the mom and the daughter, but at that point, it was revealed to the reader.

What were the other options for the word completion with
largess…perquisite

i remember one of them was
[some word]…appropriations

Aaron Burr, it was definitely largesse and perquisite.

@ arron frugal _ benefits I think was in there.

Yeah, I know it was largesse and perquisite, but what was the other word with appropriations? I don’t remember if I changed my answer to largesse or not. So knowing the other word might remind me :/

was soporific one of vocabs?
was stalwag one of the vocabs?

soporific is one of the vocabs and @aaronburr maybe ur talking about the one with prominance…something as a choice for that q?

Here are my answers, but since I got a 710 on CR last time, I’m not sure if they’re correct.

believedproved
diversity
excusecredible
impasse (or juggernaut, I was iffy)
indicesmeasure
churlishness
catalyst (?) choices emulifier & soporific ?
largesseperquisites

curtailed
yieldedcaptured
quagmire
heraldedidiosyncratic

Passage about Plants:
I put AGENT for one of the question (I was stuck between agent or recipient)
Actual for one of the answers?
harsh & accurate for another?

was soporific the answer for that one about stimulating melatonin and drowsiness?
