Get Ready,
Get Excited,
Get Pumped,
Pour your soul out regarding Physics on this thread!!!

USPhO is pretty beastly

and i dislike the fact that while the other olympiad finalists are considered "finalists," USPhO "finalists" are called "USPhO Team Members" while the top 4 people are called the traveling team

:)

physics? i took that last year, it was pretty great but you know i like bio the most. most experiemnts

USABO > USPhO

Note the differences in interest (justifiably measured by number of posts in corresponding threads)

eh. conflicts of interest xP

USPhO is arguable the hardest olympiad...combining memorization with mathematical calculations

IPhO requires creativity in the generic form known to many as genius.

Are you thinking or memorizing? The prior is physics, the latter biology.

George Feher, biophysicist, once said, "Physics is difficult but simple. Biology is easy but complex."

However, once you understand something, you think it's a piece of cake. But to arrive at understanding is the hard part. I think that's where physics and biology are no longer mutually exclusive. Thus, the biophysicist.

Im prbly gonna do physics olympiad this year. It and the other olympiads are pretty much unheard of at my school. Any advice for me? Im currently in AP physics and took honors physics last year. We havent covered electricity and magnetism yet so how much should I go over that before the competition?

USA Chem is the best :)

crazyglue--

you should know the ap physics B and C material

physics olympiad is pretty damn hard. chem olympiad was okay tho.

IMO chem olympiad was the easiest olympiad to study and test for.

but if you can make the physics traveling team, you have my undying respect :)

halliday resnick and walker is a great text for IPhO, better than physics for engineers and scientists by wolfson and pasachoff

When is the qualifying exam?

The end of january or so. Physics is the hardest of the science olympiads, although I have to argue that USACO and USAMO hold their own against physics.

Hehe, the memorization that USABO requires. You do realize that while you may know a lot of facts, you'll easily be outsmarted in a few years by expert systems.

Do you have a website for the qualifying test? I could only find information on the Physics Bowl but not on the US Physics Team test. Thanks.

How do you register for the Physics Olympiad at the local level? The AAPT website isn't much help.

My friend Piotr made finalist. Yay for him. :)

Or just by the glossary in the back of a comprehensive bio text. But come on, at least we have girls at our camp.

SAUSAGEFEST!

agreed. with a male/female ratio of 14/6...we have one of the lowest male/female ratios =)
