what you americans fail to understand is that american universities are second rate compared to the universities in the uk. any usa university student would not be able to handle the intese work ethic we have in the uk you are all to busy eating. thank you

They both have their advantages and disadvantages. There are universities in the USA which are better than Uk one and UK ones that are better than USA ones.

That seems a little one-sided dont you think Reach? Doesnt it depend on which school you go to, and what you wish to study? If your just going to do a severly one-dimensional, opinion based rant than dont post at all please.....

Reach is just angry because he got rejected from Harvard.

Reach out: Americans eat more than Brits because the food tastes good in the USA. I spent a year of grad school at the U of St. Andrews. The food was so bad in the dorm that I ate maybe half the meals there, and the other half at Indian and Chinese restaurants.

I talked to a local physician in St. Andrews, and she said one of the biggest ailments they treated among the students was hemorrhoids, due to the horrible dorm food and the reluctantance the food had to leave body, if you know what I mean--and I'm sure you do, that's probably why you're so cranky. Sit down--gently--relax, have a Budweiser and a Big Mac, and thank God for the Lend-Lease program.

This thread is going no where.

This thread is going no where.

Sort of like the OP's life?

Lol!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding American food it does taste better than British food but it's a lot unhealthier. I guess you can not have it all.

what you americans fail to understand is that american universities are second rate compared to the universities in the uk<<

Really? So why are you so eager to come here then?

Wouldn't it make more sense to stay home rather than sully yourself by attending some "second rate" American university?

OP is asking for a flame war.

If you think British food is "healthier" than American food, you must never have been there. In continental Europe the food is certainly healthier than American food, but the Brits' food is bad tasting and bad for you.

And it's probably true that the average UK university student is brighter than the average American student, but that's primarily because in the UK the % of high school grads who go to college is about a quarter of what the American % is.

I have been to the UK many times. I lived in Ireland for 8 years. What I mean by English food being of better quality is the fact that it contains less fat, salt and sugars. Of course not every dish in England is healthier than any American dish. Of course a fish and chips in batter portion is a lot unhealthier than many American dishes.

The English eat a bit less fast food (even though it's consumption has being growing) than Americans. Portions are also generally smaller and come with less side dishes than the USA. Hence why the rate of obesity is smaller.

The quality of the food is not direcly related to its taste.

Regarding intelligence of American students versus UK one's I guess you would have to check an average IQ study (if such exists) between the 2 countrys.

Regarding general knowledge I have no idea which nation has a better one. Of course a USA student knows more about his home country than a UK one and vice versa. The English probably know more about Europe while the Americans know more about their NAFTA compatriots.

UK level of participation is quite high (around 40%) at third level. This is causing quite a controversy because many people believe the goverment is pushing people that are not suitable into college with very low odds of being able to use what they learn there. Blair's government wants 50% of university age students to go to college in a few years time.

haha, this a very strange thread to find here as it has almost nothing to do with college, but i just have to say that the majority of english food is so much better than food here - i don't care what you say - you don't know what you're missing!

This thread really has gone to weird places.

At oxford they actually teach to inspire, I might have to agree with reachout. Unfortunately, english food is nothing compared to the food found in southern france. American food as a whole is by far the worse, without a doubt. However, nothing beats lobster and filet mignons!!!

^^ Yeah right, like college kids anywhere can afford to eat lobster and filet mignon all the time.

Tourguide, that was my favorite post ever!

"Sit down--gently--relax, have a Budweiser and a Big Mac, and thank God for the Lend-Lease program."

Really LOL

the issue that i was trying to put across was that the standard of american universities is equivalent to the uk's 'as' and 'a' level standard, you are paying far more also our education it at the max £3000 per year including accomatation that is roughly $5200 which is far left you could it lobsters all the time, the living is at the same level and i feel that the comments about me not getting into harvard are erroneous as i didnt apply and would rather study at oxford anyday

i agree withh reachouts views oh wait i am reachout
