USABO 2010 - Discuss

Anyone knows when they will release individual result?

or possibly there is someone out there who didnt know anything? also it wouldnt be considered Multiple answe questions if they only had one answer even if they asked choose all the above?

Oh so its like this:

missing the question as u put a wrong choice and b.c. u put the wrong choice, you miss another pt?

so -2?

CEE posted that they used the wrong answer deduction format on this test?

So does anyone definitely know whether or not there were deductions on wrong answers? It’s hard to play the game (take the test) when you don’t know the rules. Why wouldn’t they tell us that we were supposed to give multiple answers or that there would be deductions??? Who is that fair to?

^I absolutely agree. Can anyone link us to anywhere that actually talks about a wrong-answer point penalty?

Got my score… a 19. I guess that isn’t bad for only a semester of biology and no prep. I should do better next year :-).

How did the rest of you do?

w t f, a 27. How did that happen?

Lol Messiah, I got a 27 too. Considering I know I made about 6 stupid mistakes (no less), I’m pretty impressed.

Congrats on semis, I guess? lol.

how do yall kno ur scores already?
did u just ask ur sci teacher? ughhh i’m on spring break =.=

sooo did they end up subtracting points for wrong answers?

I have no idea what they did for wrong answers.

I just asked my teacher.

Oh, and does anyone know of any practice semis floating around online?

yay! got a 28
so on to semis
(i have spring break before the semis so guess i’ll study)

omg yeah, I make a good number of stupid mistakes just by brainfarts and misreading…

25, I think; I already forgot what my teacher told me. My open exam scores have been downward trending, but my semifinals scores have been upward trending. Hopefully this continues. xD

Hey guys…really quick question. I am a senior from a ruralish Nebraska high school who just brought USABO to my HS this year. I received a 26 on the test and qualified for semis. Is this a big enough deal that I should alert HYPS about it? I am not sure 1. if the award is HUGE until you make it past semis and 2. if there is even still time 2 notify them.

Thanks!
Robbie

Hey guys, I missed out by one question (20) :frowning: Is it worth my while to consult someone from USABO, perhaps for a re-scoring?

Got a 31 :S
Kinda low for me, but hey, didn’t study much, and the test was admittedly not on my strengths. Maybe the next one will be better.

Does anyone have the score distribution histogram?

@Blebbing: Sorry man, but I don’t think USABO will go for a rescore. I’ve never heard of that happening, ever, and it would set a precedent that they would not want to set.

@Rtgrove: It really depends if you want to alert them to it, and if you think they’ll care. I was in a similar position two years ago when I made semi… then I made finals, my school was notified, but no one really gave a damn. I do know that there are some schools (the one I went to my frosh year, for example) that do formal recognition of the USABO semifinalists, though. It’s really your call.

They released the results of the Open Exam already? :open_mouth: Do they email you your score, or does your teacher tell you?

phosphorylescence, do you have any practice semifinal exams handy? I would love to see what types of open response questions are on those.

For the last time, everyone, your teacher tells you your score.

I recall that the test explicitly specified that it was to your advantage to answer every question because points were given for correct answers…
