USABO 2010 - Discuss

Not with just proofreading. It’s closer to 10^7.

You should have enough for at least one run-through, provided you skip when necessary.

The semifinals…were definitely not as random as the Open Exam. Difficulty for most of the multiple choice is probably slightly easier.

Okay, good. Wait, I take that back - on second thought, I’m guessing that means the essays were horrid. :P

How would you rank difficulty from 1-10?

Let’s see…with 1 as a 9H bio textbook section assessment, and 10 a USMLE step three, probably about a 7?

oldguy: where would you have placed the open exam, then? 8~9?

wait, you’re studying for the USMLE already?
gosh i’m behind

waz there any horrible genetics probblems??? :(

hey, I got my hands on the 2010 open. If anyone knows the password, I can remove the password and send it around.

Messiah, wow. Very nice. I’m pretty sure there are programs that can de-password PDFs, look around. :P

I’m taking semis in about half an hour! :O

Haha, there were plenty of horrible genetics and plants problems.

On the whole, it was fun. Not sure if I qualified, but it was fun. :)

^was multiple choice easy?
^^Messiah, the password could be “don’t”, just like the other two previous tests. :P

got a breakdown of the percentages of topics and difficulty level? It’s my first time in semis (getting into semis was the first in my school…low cutoff)

I tried don’t, no luck

Hey how was the semis compared to last year like how was part a, b, and c each compared to last years semis? does it follow the websites listing of

 1. Animal anatomy and physiology: 25%
 2. Cell Biology: 20%
 3. Genetics and Evolution: 20%
 4. Plant anatomy and physiology: 15%
 5. Ecology: 10%
 6. Ethology: 5%
 7. Biosystematics: 5%

and time wise, how did it compare with the open exam? (srry so many ques… :()

^That distribution is baloney. Pretend it doesn’t exist. I don’t think I can say any more, though.

The Open Exam and the Semis are both difficult in their own respective ways. But yeah, an 8.

and also plz dont tell me that there was more of the “pick all that apply” ques cuz those drove me nuts on the open…

MeSsIahH, try a brute force?

I don’t see how that distribution is baloney. It seemed pretty accurate to me.
All it’s kinda saying is that there is some of everything, which is kinda true.

There was only one of the “pick all that apply” on the Semi. Maybe two, now that I think about it. They were easy, so no biggie.

The i, ii, iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii ones were more annoying. Yes, they did go up to 8 for some of them.

There is no way that distribution is accurate. Some categories were vastly overrepresented and others were barely there.

which of the subjects do u think were misrepresented and how?
