Huh. That’s a low guess, phosphorylescence. Wasn’t it something like 125 last year?

uuggh…took it a few days ago…I screwed up -_-"

Which questions did you guys find difficult?

It does seems fairly low to me, and I confess tgat I found this years semi easier than last, but the vast majority of people posting here seem to be of a differing opinion.

And yes, last years was ~125, with the highest being an incredible 142 O_O

^so what do you really think the cutoff will be?

wait, was the whole thing out of 150 or 160?

I did not bother at all to add up the points. Anywhere around 150 would be a good guess.

If the cutoff is ~90-100, I have an excellent chance of making it. Three of the Part B questions (worth 3-5 points each: the rate of photosynthesis one, an angiosperm one, and another one) were somehow from a set of review problems I did, so I got pretty lucky with that!

Nevertheless, I did think the exam was pretty hard. Not that my opinion matters, though, since I’ve never taken a USABO semifinal exam before.

Best of luck to everyone who took Semis. :)

does anyone remember the techs for the plant systematics on the last 9 of part B? I completely whiffed that, so I answered all false (because the way it was worded, it sounded like 6/9 would be false).

Did anyone else find the western blot coming out purple question to be hilarious? One of the answer choices was that you contaminated it with purple stuff. Technically, you can’t rule that out XD

^milk proteins?

The western blot one was a bit of a bad question.

For plant systematics, I had no idea what kind of answers they were expecting so I just semi-randomly filled in 3 true and 6 false.

^^ yeah, I’m pretty sure the correct answer was that you didn’t block with milk proteins.

i put buffers >_< i put around 6 true/3 false :

what was the answer to the question about the specific cell labeled “y”?

was most of the stuff hidden somewhere in campbell? i don’t remember a lot of it lol

what did you get for those insane diagram questions?

^You’d be amazed at how much stuff is actually in Campbell. I only know about antibody staining because I used to in the lab I worked at over the summer though.

Which diagrams are these?

do you mean the picture identification?
i thought those were adipose cells and the arrows were pointing to RBCs.

Thanks, I put that. Does anyone want to start on a more inclusive question/answer list so that I’ll be a little more prepared and won’t be heartbroken when I’m notified of rejection? :)

The diagram was ■■■■■■■■. I absolutely could not tell what they were talking about. Though I’d put money on samgunno’s guess.

^there was a choice involving “oxygen utilization”
I thought of RBCs, but there wasn’t a choice.

^Yo I totally agree with Mentos; let’s start a list

Anyone want to start?
