I second Iikeyou.

It is possible that former finalists aren’t being notified ahead of time. Which is a terrible policy, but I have not heard from any former finalist who has been notified, and I know of 5 (me included) who have not.

^Yea that’s currently the most likely possibility. Maybe they already have your info/etc.

But why would they just assume you are available? And then release the final results without any communication at all, not even an email. 0_0

Perhaps because people who have finaled last year already know what they’re getting into?

^ talking about what we’re getting into:

what exactly do we do at finals?
i know it’s intense bio, but is the material way beyond campbell?

how much free time do we have there?
i’m thinking about bringing my violin to practice for ~30 minutes a day (i have a recital a week after i get back), is there enough time to do so?

just a couple questions off the top of my head…

You do labs mostly. Some lecture, but geared far more towards the practical

Not if you plan to medal

^ lol at answer to 2.

Labs are fun! I’m really looking forward to it. (I get to not take finals at my school, either. It will be a blast. xD)

Results are coming out tomorrow, and I’ve yet to hear of a single past finalist being notified. This is extremely odd. And somewhat heart-wrenching.

according to phospho. there’s been 7 not notified. 1 notified.
0_0 wow.

More nerve-wracking than heart-wrenching. It would really suck if none of the previous finalists made it! wth.

Well, if that is the case I would sincerely wish the US team luck at IBO… It might not end up as the best year

yo phosphorlyescenc, can you please give us the handouts from last year’s finals? I kinda wanna stop twiddling my thumbs not knowing what to study…

Thanks so much in advance!

^they aren’t in digital format.

scanner ftw bro

That would be extremely tedious.

@ Ilikeyou: so you’re saying that one previous finalist has been called? is s/he on cc?

previous finalists: if we mostly learn about lab/practical stuff in Purdue, then what should I study for the theoretical part? is it enough to just study the handouts that they give you?

so have all other finalists been notified?

Handouts ain’t digital.

Since you guys are clearly better at studying than I am, I am afraid my advice will not be of any use to you. Call me bitter, but you would be the same way in my position.

I haven’t got ascanner anyway. Just read the angiosperms chapters of Raven, review the animal stuff from Campbell and look for online materials.

sigh

^^ No, phospho, no one in their right mind would call you bitter. I understand and sympathize completely. Heck, I was looking forward to meeting you in person. :(

Edit: At what time/where do the results get posted?

There hasn’t been a predictable announcement of Finalists for several years (especially not immediately after Finalists have been determined), though CEE will always publish a list via press release at some point. Usually late May?
