I’ll be taking the test next year, and I have a few questions:
What books helped you out aside from Campbell’s Biology?
How far in advance did you start studying?
How hard are the questions? I’ve heard that USABO is the least legit of the olympiads in terms of prestige - compared to USAMO or USAPhO especially. Are they very critical thinking type questions or more fact based?
How much math is involved
How much do you think the kids who make it to the IBO study? Does it rule their life or are they generally pretty well rounded?

Oh god. I just looked at that 2009 exam, and I don’t think I could’ve gotten half the ones right on there…Even that pedigree question was hard, although it was one of the ones I actually understood.
Does anyone know the answer to that one (it’s #23)? I’m thinking A or B.

number 42 is C. If you vomit, your body will produce more HCl to make up for the stuff you vomited. A byproduct of HCl production are bicarbonate ions, and excess bicarbonate ions must be excreted via urine.

Yeah, that makes sense HCO3 is present in large quantities in the urine afterwards. I think number 23 is A by the way, if it was B all of the progeny would exhibit the disease.
Here’s some other questions that I’m unsure of:
45. B?
41. E?
44. C?
49. D?
35. D?

It ends next Thursday, Feb 25th. I’m taking the test tomorrow, too, but I could really use another week to prepare for this!
