USAFA Chance Me?

Hey, I am Aleksander Wilms, and I was hoping I could have some help with a “chance me” post.

But first, I have several things as well. To start, both of my parents are retired USAF officers. I am also studying a year abroad in Germany as of now (Junior Year 09/10). I won a scholarship called the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) which is funded by the US State Department, and the German Bundestag (Congress). I have received letters from my local representative, Eric Cantor and from one of the Virginia senators as well. I was hoping I could obtain an appointment from one of these men. That it all I have and so I guess I should list my accomplishments, statistics, and acknowledgements.

Name: Aleksander Wilms
Age:17
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male

GPA: 3.5/4
Class Rank: 45/387

SAT- I take in January (I have to wait to go to the Kaiserslautern army base)

I go to a VERY small, rural school, where sports is not big (only 1 Varsity sport, football), and AP classes are extremely limited. As well as being away for my Junior year, I have not had the chance to take the AP courses my school offers.

10th Grade: AP European History

I have some extracurriculars as well:

Boy Scouts
Debate Team (President)
Several automotive car clubs
Competitive paintball
and several hundred hours of volunteer work in Germany as well as in the USA.

My 12th grade plan is as of follows:

AP US government
AP english 12
AP Psychology
AP Chemistry
Trigonometry
Pre Calculus

Thanks for taking the time out to respond to this message, as it helps me knowing what kind of chances, and where I should set my aims.

-Aleks

i give it precisely a 20.10% chance

Thank you for your response.

Haha, eagle. Nice.

Here is the real answer: only the admissions committee can give you a definite answer.

Remember, USAFA looks for academics, leadership, and athletics.

On you stats: your GPA is a little below average, and your math level is low (USAFA likes students to have some calculus experience).

No one can tell you “yes” or “no” except the admissions committee.

Thanks for the reply!

The main reason my GPA is low, is because of my skipping out on junior year, but summer courses should help bring it up.

Towards math; my school doesn’t offer Calculus. I can try and take a summer class as well once I am stateside.

Anything else I should improve? thanks for your time, again.

First of all, I would never post your full name on the internet…

Your stats look good, but really try to get your eagle scout. It is one thing to be a scout, but being an eagle scout will really help you out.

Good luck!

I believe there are two votes for 20.12% chance.

Just being a smart alec - good luck!

Oh I get it! The graduation dates.

Drumsrock, thanks for the advice. I don’t use the computer that much and these little security issues get the best of me sometimes!

Towards the Eagle Scout: I was a star scout (2 ranks away from eagle) and then my leader died, and no one wanted to take the position of leader, so we disbanded. The lcosest one is about 45 miles away, which I can do when I come back to the states.

Thanks for the answers!

Is there any way a moderator could scrub his name from the first post (and this post)?
