So...I almost qualified for USAMO last year. I literally missed it by one question. Should I mention this on the Awards section of the common app, or just say I qualified for AIME? The schools I'm applying to will know my AIME score anyway (there's a section for AIME scores on the supplement), and I'm worried saying I MISSED USAMO BY ONE QUESTION will make me look like a sore loser, or something like that. Then again, it might also make me look more impressive, and the college might not know a 7 is high enough to almost qualify...what should I do?

I would not belabor the the point...since you did not win the award, saying that you almost did would be a little sketchy.

If they're going to know your AIME scores anyway, that should be enough. And if they have a special place on their application for AIME score, they'll know perfectly well what it takes to qualify.

I agree completely with Sly Si...the only schools I've seen with spaces for AIME scores were MIT-ish schools; they definitely know what is good

yeah.. almost isnt quite there... so dont list it

I agree...and great job qualifying for AIME!
