You should be fine. I took Physics B last year as a junior and made semis the same year (lucky, but also sort of tied in with self-studying for Physics C: Mech). I use Halliday, but I believe Giancoli is just as good.

Cool!
Thanks for the help!

Where can I get the former tests?

@tigerbookmark - That’s strange. I completed it on WebAssign and my score is not up. It also appears to have reverted to the state it was in before I took F=ma. For example, it says I still need to get an 80% or above on Olympiad Registration to access the Practice Olympiad Exam or the 2014 Olympiad Exam. Does anyone else have this problem?

@moustache Do you have a link called past assignments, because that where you have to click to get your score.
If you don’t, I suggest you contact your teacher/aapt coordinator immediately
(Are you sure you didn’t make 2 accounts or something like that?)

@moustache - I haven’t used webassign so don’t know what’s going on with your login. If I were you, I’d give AAPT a call to see what the problem is.

If you guys haven’t yet visited the Artofproblemsolving.com website, there was a post today indicating that the semi-finalist announcement has been delayed to Friday. The AAPT reason is “huge setback and surprise for the AAPT staff due to the drastic results on the exam”. Who knows what that means, but my take on that is the scores are unusually low or unusually high, so they can’t decide on a cutoff :)

What’s the AAPT?

@Apollo11 - AAPT = American Association of Physics Teachers. They are the ones sponsoring the F=ma context.

Oh, cool!

Do you know where I can get the former tests? I can’t find them on the F=MA website.

Past exams are here: <a href=“2014 U.S. Physics Team - Exams”>http://www.aapt.org/physicsteam/2014/exams.cfm

Thanks so much!

Wow, I’m nervous that the cutoff’s going to be extremely high now (“drastic scores”???) I’m pretty sure I only got a 14.25 now…

More delays? Darn. I felt like I was borderline before the whole “drastic results” announcement, but now that it’ll probably be some crazy high threshold, I won’t hold my breath. Good luck, everyone!

Sigh, I don’t think I made it if it’s really going to be that high of a cutoff. I’m scared.

Guys, it’s more likely the scores are low than high :). Don’t sweat it too much.

Wait, how is it more likely the scores are low? Do you guys think I have a chance if I got 14.25? :(

There is a 2-week period for the test. This leaves a large window for cheating, which may significantly raise the cutoff score.

@tigerbook How do you know that it was actually the aapt who posted on aops ?
Why wouldn’t they have posted that on the website?

It wasn’t the AAPT that posted it on AOPS. It was someone saying that that person called the AAPT…

Now I feel kinda bad because my school takes the F=ma relatively late and I scored really high on it as well. The only thing going for me that says “not a cheat” is that my score consistently scores well anyways but if they are reviewing scores… bites nails

Wait, “takes the AAPT”? Huh?
