^lol

Is it possible to make MOSP and USAPHO camp at the same time? I think I’m hopeful for both.

^lol

That would be seriously talented.

What topics are on semifinal exam? I’ve been looking at some tests but I don’t even know what category some of these problems are lol

I know theres abviously mechanics but how much e&m do we hav to know? I dont think I saw any magnetism problems… Just some thermo and waves?

I took it today, and while I won’t reveal any particular details, I will say that if you haven’t taken it yet, you’re in trouble because everything needs to arrive at AAPT by the 28th. :x

It was brutal. I went in expecting to just get it over with. I hadn’t touched E&M in a year. @IIlIll are you hoping to get into the camp?

And any topic goes for the semifinals. If you’re actually trying you need to study everything.

There are still 3 days. USPS overnight delivery should work.

Just took it today. Perhaps the hardest semi ever :-S only completed like just half of them [-O<

Took it friday. It was alright

I thought e&m was a bit hard though

I’m hoping to score top 50 or so (silver/gold), and if I’m lucky, then maybe…but yeah that’s kinda a faraway dream since I did so poorly last year (literally walked in, saw the test, handed it back, walked out saying I didn’t want to waste 3 hours). I think I did alright this year (think I got 4-5 right), but A3 was weirddddddd (not going to say what it was though since we’re not supposed to discuss). The other questions were pretty expected/predictable.

I’m actually not that good at mechanics xD and I barely scraped over the F=ma.

@|||||| : lol 4-5 right answer could get you to gold or even Physics Team… just sayin’

well there’s a lot of places where I could’ve randomly messed up and lost points on a section, even though I got the general idea of the problem. Examples include the second part of A2 (felt more mathy than physic-y), like 75% of A3, parts of A4 (where it’s either you get it right or you don’t), as well as small mistakes elsewhere (B1 comes to mind since I felt it was rather bashy, I don’t think I did the second part correctly)

I know, I also messed up the first part of B1 so badly - just wrote down the stream of equations at the last minutes without double-check them. B2 was fairly easy and elementary through.

I actually really liked B2 as a problem because it was fun to do and required some good conceptual knowledge (as well as sufficient math skills/experience).

Also, either I did A1 wrong or it was too trivial of a problem (took me like 5-10 minutes…and I’m not even strong at what it tested). I had a lot more trouble with a few others…

The one with Fred and the Alien was so interesting yet so confusing. I ended up just leaving it blank.

It makes me feel better that you just handed it back last year, @IIlIll, because that’s what I wanted to do this year. My physics teacher (new at the olympiad) kept asking me if I was “sure I wanted to leave that blank”. I struggled through it all.

Haha yes, that confusing one was A3. (I guess just saying “Fred and the Alien” doesn’t reveal much, but still :P)

I think the way to get better is simply practice, practice, practice after you know all the theory. Prepping for this felt much like prepping for AMC/AIME/USAMO for me last year. The time limit isn’t nice (unlike USAMO), which is why practice is that much more important, because you have to recognize what to do, quickly. Hopefully they don’t grade as rigorously (I didn’t explain a few assumptions in B1, and terminology was shaky in B2).

Anyway, what’s over is over, and hey, we should feel great for qualifying for the semis at all. Physics can definitely get brutal fast :c

when can we discuss about the exam rather can we start discussing

also, this year there is no discussion on apos either can someone tell the solution for b1

April 4 is the first discussion date I believe.
B1: Without giving away the problem, all I’ll say is it relied on some basic laws plus a rather hefty algebra bash (imo).
