USC 2009 transfer thread

Yuta, why did you send in a bank statement?? And if I am sending my official transcript in, I don't need to send the unofficial one right?

grey_syntactics: Wow! I suppose the fact that the cumulative GPA's are being calculated differently will result in higher transfer GPA's. Lol, you guys are lucky. :) Thanks for letting me know!

mcguigs: Official transcripts should suffice.

If you send in forms via mail do we need to include a cover and closing sheet with it? Do we need to put anything on the envelopes like our USC ID# or anything of that sort?

put your usc id #. I dont think a cover and closing sheet are necessary, those are for faxing

i sent my transcripts out 2 days before i applied and turns out you needed a cover sheet according to the website... you think it'll matter? :/

oh really? hmmm, zircushio, id say just give them a call to confirm theyve received it and everything

im such an idiot.

what the hell, bank statement, cover closing doc?
i havent even been told to send in my transcript!

damn my transferrable GPA is A LOT WORSE than my cumm gpa :(
do we need to send in our HS xscripts too if were gonna be a junior xfer

ya, you still need to send in your HS transcripts regardless.

Hey guys. I just became a member of this website and I was wondering if you guys could rate my chances to get admitted this fall.

SORRY IF THIS POST IS REALLY LONG!

College: Emory University

Applying as a Chemistry major (MATH major second choice)

Fall 2008:

DANC 190 (freshman seminar requirement at Emory): A
English 101: A-
General Chemistry I: B+
PE 101 (1 unit instead of 4 units): B+
Econ 101: C (ughh)

CUM GPA: 3.253 (it would be 3.64 if it weren't for that stupid C)

This semester I'm taking:

2nd semester english writing course

Intro study in sexualities (I think it can fulfill the USC diversity requirement)

Calculus II

General Chemistry II

I got a 5 on an AP before college (Calculus AB) so that transferred in as Calc I at Emory

By the end of the year I will have 37 units so if I get a spring grade request, my HS gpa shouldn't be considered (thank god cuz my final HS gpa was like 3.1)

SATs: 2090 (630 reading, 660 writing, 800 math)
SAT IIs: 760 Math Level II, 700 Physics

My semester ends in May and hopefully I'll have a CUM gpa between 3.5-3.6 when it's over

I've done quite a few ECs in high school (including student body secretary) and some in college, along with a good amount of volunteering & I've worked every summer

Also in the "why do you want to transfer" essay, I am partially writing about how I would like to minor in the music industry, since Emory doesn't offer that

What do you guys think???? I REALLY want to go to USC! :)

you have a chance. The GPA is a little low for a sophomore transfer. The C doesnt help. Most people who I know who transferred as sophomores had high 3's.
You will for sure get a spring grade request, so just do really well this semester, and I think since your from Emory, youve got a good shot. Worst case, just transfer as a Junior though.
Also, how did you get into Emory with a 3.1 HS gpa?

yeh lil low

hmm i have a 3.41 or something transferable
and a 3.52 non lol gr8

Hey guys, dont give up... I got in with a 2.9 transferable GPA (actually lower)... I mean, I had like 7 F's on my record, and for the 2 years before I got in got a 4.0 and did a lot of other stuff, but still it just goes to show how they really look at the overall applicant. Dont stress on your overall gpa if you have an upward trend and other good stuff....

I will always love USC for this reason. Its not just a numbers game with them.

Thanks for the input!

To answer your question, my 3.1 was at the end of my senior year because I really screwed up second semester after I sent off all my apps and I just slacked off like crazy, lol. At the applying time tho my GPA was like 3.4-3.5 I think and my SATs are good so I think Emory just liked all of that. I actually got wait-listed at first but then I sent them a letter and stuff and eventually got accepted :)

but now i needa get outta here lol

Thats cool...
Well I think you can pull SC off....

im confuse, you need to send in your transript - unofficial or the official one??? i started last fall 08 and im taking a class this semester - also will be taking more in the spring. pls advise me if when i should send a transcript...

Thanks evo... I'll let you know what happens

USC was always my dream school and I didn't get in out of high school cuz of stupid senior year yet i got into emory... so i'm hoping transferring will finally be my shot!

kathybaby, send in an official no matter what. People are just sending in unofficial through fax, then sending in their official ones for whatever reason, but just know that you DO have to send in the official transcript

Shoo, I think you've got a shot, especially if you've written good essays and all that jazz

u think i should cheat n put my non-transferable gpa
they will recalculate anyway
but then mebe they wont throw it away after 1st glance (mebe 2nd? :D )

activity summary.... do i list high school stuff too???

if i send in my official, when do i exactly do that? should i wait to send it when the spring grades are included already, or i should give it the earliest which is by feb 2 (deadline)? (which will include only classes i took last this winter and last fall?
