captain - I have that as well. From what I hear it has to do with your payment not being processed for the part I application fee, a lot of people that used credit cards had this happen for some reason. They told me I will have to either send a letter authorizing the charge or send a money order.

Hi everyone, I'm a sophomore at UCR and I submitted my app. to USC this past weekend. So nerve wracking!! Anyway I've been reading these threads and they've really put everything into perspective. Mainly that pretty much the entire world wants to go to USC hahaha. Well for anyone who is willing to give me a little hear-say, I got a 3.785 for my Fall grades. I am applying to USC with 21 units completed, with 16 in progress for winter quarter (13 completed at UCR, Rest AP Credit). I applied to Annenberg for communications (Yes, I've heard how competitive it is) with a second major in Journalism. I have always been a really talented writer so all my essays were outstanding, I am for positive. However, my high school grades were not so impressive. I took rigorous courses in high school but I slacked off for much of it. I got a 1940 as my cumulative SAT score, with a 660 in Literature (SAT2) and 560 in Biology (SAT2). I took 5 AP exams and passed only 2 with a 3 Grade, which were AP Lit/AP Lang Comp. I was varsity cheer captain, participated in a variety of clubs in high school, have an internship in LA, pledged in Alpha Chi Omega this spring, joined a few clubs, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, etc.

Considering everything, do you think I have a shot at Fall, or even a postponed spot in the Spring once my grades have been solidified? I am for certain that I can get above a 3.8 this quarter. Please let me know! Thanks everyone!

uscplease777- First off, take a deep breath- you have a great resume and grades. If you are applying with more than 30 credits USC doesn't focus on your high school grades and they don't even ask for your SAT scores, or any other ones. Don't get hung up if we think you have a shot or not, but just to throw it out there I would say you have a great one. It is a tough college you are applying to, but now there is really nothing more we can do but to wait and hear back in a few months.

since you applied with 21 units i'm guessing you sent your scores; if so disregard what i said about the 30 units, also its different because you are on the quarter system

Okay guys I swear this is gonna be my only chance me post LOL

I just wanna know what you guys think. I am gonna get a b in my accounting class, giving me a 3.57 gpa after 21 units, the b is in accounting 101
In the spring I am taking all of my Marshall prereqs although I took macroecon last summer and got an a

If they see that I had a straight a semester this spring that would take my gpa to 3.79 and I don't see why they would not take me.

Right? LOL guys I am studying for my accounting final and trippin out LOL I could use some honesty.

so I can drop French and save my GPA. You think taking 14 credits instead of my usual 17 this semester would hurt my chances? I already have 48 credits, so at the end of spring I'd end up with 62...

On that note, I only have to complete a language at USC.. I finished all my other requirements (except for my major of course )

Note that 1) Junior standing at USC is 64 units, not 60 like in the UC system; 2) 16 units is considered full time at USC, not 12 like in most CCCs; and 3) There are 3 more requirements that everyone has to take at USC, so no one who transfers in is done with lower-division work. There are two lower-division GEs and an upper-division writing course that everyone has to take at USC.

Thanks so much captainrodeo! I have to emphasize the fact that I did extremely poorly in high school. I graduated with a 3.4, but I failed my trig/pre-calc class my last quarter of senior year. I was extremely unmotivated, to say the least. I know the prereq is only Alg 2 so hopefully they will be able to focus on the positive trend that I am on.

Archieg! Dude- when you send them midyear reports they will see that is a huge GPA jump. Worrying doesn't add a day to your life, you are gonna be good, just keep on what your doing and study.

well said grey, i forgot that their full time was 16 credits! :( haha

on the other hand, taking 14 credits ONE semester will hamper my decision? i suppose anything could, but maybe they wont ask for my spring request? :P i have no choice but to drop the french.. but i could always find some ridiculously easy art class to fill in the gap, but idk if thats the smartest move to take.

if they ask why i dropped it, couldn't i say i want to take advantage of some of their core courses? :D

No, full-time IS 12 units... But if you want to graduate in 4 years, you need to take an average of 16 units a semester (32 a year) because the minimum needed for a bachelor's is 128.
