The 18th century French philosopher Denis Diderot said, "Only passions, great passions can elevate the soul to great things." Describe one of your passions and reflect on how it has contributed to your personal growth.

Thomas Edison failed many times before successfully inventing the modern electric light bulb. He said, "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward. " Reflect on an accomplishment you achieved in an unlikely way.

Newton's First Law of Motion states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion in the same direction unless acted upon by an external force. Tell us about an external influence (a person, an event, etc.) that affected you and how it caused you to change direction

I'm from Canada trying to transfer as a Sophomore. I got the impression from reading some of the posts in this thread that my HS grades will matter, but I think I remember reading on their brochure that if you have 30 or more units they will just look at your college grades...so which is it? In Canada we don't have units we have "credits" At my University (Univ. of Toronto - Mississauga) a standard year is 5 credits...so I'm guessing 1 credit at my school would equal to 6 units, I asked a counsellor at my school and she wasn't totally sure but she assumed that that's what it would be equivalent to. Also was Part 1 of the apllication process mandatory? And when is the deadline for part 2?

I think you need to submit your high school transcript in even if you have more than 30 credits. As for Part 1, it's completely optional. It's only used to get you into their computer, nothing else. I would recommend you do it anyway because you get a $15 discount on Part 2 then. Part 1 is only a $10 fee. I forgot when Part 2 is due, maybe December? I don't know how the whole Canada thing works...sorry.

yeah I've spoken with the international counsellor at USC and she was pretty helpful, although she said it would be next to impossible for me to get into marshall because I need to take a course equiv. to their WRIT 130 and my only chance would be to get admitted into USC in a different program, and then transfer once already in the school, but when I called the general admission number I was told different, they keep telling me different things.
And yeah I know they still look at your high school transcript but just as a proof of graduation correct? They won't actually focus on those marks I hope.

for those who have been accepted, its probably going to take me the whole two years to complete my GE at community college but im worried that i wont be accpeted because i wouldnt have completed any of my prereqs for my major.
: ?

USC's website says I need to take a writing 130 class, but the school i am currently attending says that I have already completed my writing requirement because I took Critical Composition in high school, which is a college writing class. Do I still need to take writing 130 to be eligible for admissions to USC?

By the course name you have described (critical thinking/composition) it seems like it would fulfill the need, but you should call USC to double check.

Students must be of a minimum sophomore standing upon commencement of the program.** Transfer students may study overseas upon completion of two semesters at USC.** Most programs are open for both semester and year-long study, but some are only available in the spring or require attendance for a full year. A few programs require junior standing. Think about your degree plan and speak to your advisor when deciding what would be the best time for you.

I'm transferring as a Junior and my advisor kept insisting I consider the idea for my Senior year or the summer. So, yes, you can still study abroad as a transfer student.

I would think they're about equals. I don't know enough about the music business program to give a definite. I do know when you apply as a music performance major a large portion is based off of your audition. But that's not what your applying to...
