it seems as if everyone applying is in state are there any oos students applying?

hi guys! i transferred to 'SC this fall after playing the application waiting game this past spring, so just from my experience, do your best in classes, be passionate in your application, and expect a VERY long time-i didn't find out about USC until end of may (literally the day after i gave UCLA $100...and it was the best $100 i've lost!) and also, it's good to apply to other schools as well. i know people who just applied to USC and got in, but i got paranoid and applied to 3 UCs as well (i transferred from SMC) and got in, but still...USC will take their time and you WANT them to because that means they're really using the holistic approach as opposed to a numbers system. best of luck to everyone this year!

Thanks for the tips.

Do you think the time it takes to wait depends on what major/school you applied to?

^ And also, do they decide on a rolling basis? Does submitting your application early mean that you will get a decision earlier than those who submitted late?

Good question. I kind of doubt sending in your application early will get you an earlier decision though.

No, admissions are not rolling.

Got it. Thanks!

ok so on part 1 it asks for cumulative gpa...i haven't even started college. do i put 4.0? or leave it blank? and as for SAT scores i guess just put the ones we got

to answer a few questions:
-to reiterate, admission is NOT rolling-part 2 is due on feb 1, and they actually prefer that you do it closer to the feb 1 deadline instead of earlier because it will have fall grades, etc.
-the time you hear will vary. viterbi gets first crack at admissions and viterbi applicants from CC this past cycle heard as early as early april. after that it really is a crap shoot. i know they did a majority of CLAS in may (more towards the second half of may), Thornton, Theatre, and SCA heard throughout may. many marshall people heard in may but many did not hear until late may/early june. SPPD heard in june....some did not hear until july though. be prepared for a very, VERY long haul.
-if you are a sophomore applicant, it will be even longer-they will require to see your spring grades because one of the prereqs to get into USC, as you all know, are alg 2 in HS/int. alg in college, and second-semester english (i.e. a WRIT-130/140 equivalent). so just be prepared to send in your spring grades the MOMENT you get them.
-also a hint-the part 1 application is only really good for the discount in the app. fee. i had a few issues my fall '07 semester that were not yet resolved by the time the part 1 deadline rolled around, i asked my admissions counselor assigned to my CCC if i needed to send it in because i too was having issues with my cumulative GPA (grade appeals SUCK.) and he basically told me that it wasn't necessary and it does not affect anything in the application process. you can still do the part 1, but if you don't have a cume GPA or if you have issues that cannot be explained in the part 1 application, it's better to just wait until part 2.

I go to the very competitive University of Florida, which is ranked in the top 20 of public universities and is considered a public ivy.
Anyways:

Major: Classics (im on the pre health track because I want to go to med school, but the major is classics for making myself different)

GPA 3.65 (after freshman year)
Extracurriculars:
VP of the biggest organization under student government which runs all the cultural organizations at UF.

Treasurer of UF Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
Florida HOSA State Vice President ( This is of the whole state of florida)

Volunteer Work at Shands Hospital ER
also addition volunteer work in high school (300 hrs +)

Tennis Club

What are my chances for a Junior transfer?

and my gpa is only a 3.65 because im already in orgo as a sophomore so i have taken the gen chems and bio already.

I got a D in english 101 and retook it and got a B will that hurt my chances also got a B in Macro btw im business major 3.55 right now

USC does not honor academic renewal. That D for English 101 will be incorporated into the GPA that you will apply with, and will also carry into your USC GPA. That said, your GPA will be lower than 3.55 when you apply. You will need to factor that D in (lame, I know). I got an F on a class that I forgot to drop, re-took it and got an A, but now it's going into my freaking GPA. :(

So Feb 2 is when Part II is due?

grey_syntactics is right. That being said, retaking the course and earning an A demonstrates that you are capable of excelling in a course and that the previous grade was due to some serious circumstance. An upward grade trend is indication of only one thing: maturity. If you follow some of last year's accepted thread you'll find a few admits along the same line. :)

If I want to transfer as a sophomore student, how many EC's should i consider getting myself into? And what kinds? Intramural sports a no?

Hey, you guys only need another 500 pages (and 7500 posts or so) to match last year's thread.

Best of luck with that.

P.S. With ksbr27 and Woman of Troy on the thread, you are already getting some excellent advice from two transfer admittees from last year--so tell them thanks occasionally when they give you info that they and others sometimes had to wait months to find/figure out.

I wanted to get into USC as a computer science major, anyone know how hard it is to get in for this major or the acceptance rate? Also, do they pay more attention to grades I earned on certain subjects outside of Computer Science classes?

so has anyone here decided to go to one of the transfer days at usc?

i really want to go to one, but haven't decided which date..

im going to the one in november
