USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@college hopeful
so it wouldnt just be easier to apply for the CLAS?

Hey guys, I just started graduated from high school this year and I started my first semester of CCC this fall. I’m looking into transfering to USC (Marshall) for fall 2010. I’ve already gotten myself involved with some extra curriculars on campus (Business Club/SIFE/Student Activities Committee), but I was wondering if I should include my high school ECs in my application since it’s just my first semester. Is this a good idea?

@YoungCollegeGirl - Yes, generally the GPA of applicants tends to be higher for schools such as Marshall or Cinematic arts because the programs are much more competitive. From what I read on here, 3.82 should be good enough for CLAS as long as your essays/recs are good.

@Stigmata - Yes, can’t hurt to include it, but focus on the college activity.

Will do. Thanks AMorrison.

hey guys. does anyone know the deadline for viterbi? i keep getting the dates mixed up between the ucs and the several private schools im applying too. haha i guess i am just getting overwhelmed with the applications. :frowning:
oh and also, how much are ec’s weighed during the admissions process? i know usc is wholistic(sp?) with the entire process, but my concern stems from the fact that my work experience and ec’s arent really geared towards engineering per se. also, do SATs help at all?(i got a 2360/2400).

i’m a little confused by the USC online app.
when it asks you to list the schools you’ve attended, should you also include the college you’re transferring out of? if so, what should I put for the “end date” and “reason for leaving”?

@wakerly : yes in general CLAS is easier to get into. if you want to get into businessy aspects but not apply for marshall…apply as an econ major?

@stigmata: well i mean i was a freshmen when i applied so i basically only had high school ecs. i listed all of those  haha it made me feel like i was just redoing my hs senior app

@purple: yah i think it asks for your high school than college. i listed my college and the reason was transferring

gluck to all of you <3

how good is an internship in a startup company that does international business for an international relation/global business major ?

i really hope that it will stand out in my application …

How do you convert quarter units to semester units?

Currently I am a freshman at UCR with credits for 20 units from AP classes I took in high school and another 14 from classes i’m taking this quarter. I plan on at least having 13-14 units per quarter the rest of the year. So at least 40 units+ 20 AP credits. So would I be able to transfer as an applicant with that “30+ unit” earlier?

Assuming I pass all those classes.( I currently have a 3.8–2 A’s and 1 B±- and expect it to be somewhere near that at the end of the quarter)

Divide total number of quarter units by 1.5; so you’d need 45 quarter units to transfer as a “30+” applicant.

Edit: Actually you’d need 45 units by the time you apply; credits in progress don’t count is what I’ve been told through emails. The rule is a general one though, so some may be able to bypass it but in general, you need 30 or more credits by application time to not have your old records looked at.

Unless these people are lying, you do not need 30 units completed at the time of the application. It is my general understanding that units in progress are still part of the 30 unit rule. But hell, I don’t know much!

@brianlee - That’s right. It is very possible, however, that if you have less than 30 units you will receive a Spring Grade Request (SGR) from USC. You have to reply with your grades by June 30, and then hear back no later than mid-July. They evaluate your application preliminarily before they send you an SGR (not everyone gets them), and then complete the evaluation after you’ve sent them in. People who do not receive SGRs usually hear back before that. This is what I experienced last year, anyway.

Do you think it would hurt to apply to the CLAS as undeclared or undecided?

wakerdry11 - No, it would probably not hurt to apply as undeclared. I do know from last year’s USC Thread, someone was admitted as an undecided and was going for junior standing. So based on that, I don’t necessarily think it will hurt you.

What’s up with the application and applying to usc booklet that was supposed to be mailed? That email went out over 2 weeks ago. Anybody get their application & booklet in the mail yet?

I got my Applying to USC booklet in the mail on Friday.

Same, all I received was a booklet with some very general admissions and major info for Marshall in my case.

I got the general booklet too. It looks like you need to request to have a paper version of the application send to you, or print it out from the web.

SC just sent me a letter telling me that my Part I was received ://
how do you request the packet?
