USC 2010 Transfer Thread

xdzzzrawr - thanks once again for replying. Basically, I feel unhappy living in norcal. I’m from LA and had always wanted to attend USC. I don’t have that much of a problem with the school, but I know I would be happier and fit in better at USC.

@noodlesli - You fill out and submit the online application and then mail in corresponding documents such as high school/college transcripts, any letters of rec, etc.

The online application is not too confusing, try looking through the sections of it to see what you’ll need to fill in as far as course information goes.

@ 8KBMJ23 no problem at all, glad to be of some help. But yea if you always wanted to go to USC just say that and you made the wrong choice by going to Berkely and just try to be respective and not too servile when explaining yourself. You want to tell them that USC is a better school or a better fit and much better than Berkley (indirectly of course) in your admissions but at the same time you don’t want to sound too desperate that you just want to get the hell out of Berkley, just present yourself as finally making the right choice in your life. I’m in a similar situation as you I guess even though UCR is not even close to nearly as good as Berkley, I just wrote UCR’s business program is terrible and USC’s is better and if I have the opportunity and grades to prove myself worthy of a better institution, why not go? Something along those lines in my opinion will get you admitted once again, hopefully your grades at Berkley are up to par.

EDIT: though you might wanna make the case that the environment in norcal doesn’t suit you, you really do not want that to be the only or main factor of your reasons since the application is about entering a different university and institution and NOT really about the city/surrounding area (don’t make it seem like you’re homesick). Also keep in mind USC treats community college students just as equally as us UC applicants and if your grades are not as great or equal as say a community college applicant, you may be at a disadvantage.

@8KBMJ23 I actually went to Cal as well and had to medically withdraw after a year and have been at a JC and now am choosing to transfer to SC (if I get in) rather than just have my medical block at Cal lifted and going back there.

THEREFORE, I too have to explain to USC why I am choosing to go to USC rather than continuing my education at Cal (since its not like I have to re-apply, I just tell them I’m going back). I actually ended up using the additional comments section to explain this to them. IMHO you should keep the reasons academic, although you MIGHT want to throw in a little information about how the social environment isn’t right for you although I think this would come off as just not being able to hack it. Do you happen to be changing majors with this university change?

Just submitted, let the waiting begin!

I have 2 questions that I’m hoping someone can answer:

-Do 5’s on two AP English tests count towards the writing requirement?

-If I fill out the online application, do I need to mail in any of forms other than transcripts/form 7?

What happens if we don’t submit our financial aid by Feb. 2nd?

nice Ammorison, I just submitted my app too and MAN DOES IT FEEL GOOD, and now the wait really is on. Everyone make sure before you submit TRIPLE TRIPLEEE DOUBLE check everything and I mean everything to make sure you don’t have any misspellings, grammar errors, any wrong reporting of units just everything because I’ve looked over my app atleast 10 times through to review and each time I changed some things or corrected some mistakes, just make sure everything is clean and top notch free of errors

Man I haven’t even started my essay. No idea what to write about.

A few posts back somebody said something about financial aid too… does anyone know of anybody there that gets financial aid, or has anyone heard anything about it this year?? I feel like I have a really good chance of getting accepted (3.9 gpa) but it’s going to be ridiculous paying 55 grand for 2+ years, so hopefully somewhere I can get some assistance!! I mean USC really is my only choice and I haven’t applied anywhere else so obviously I’m aware of the costs but still.

so I already sent in my transcripts BUT I didn’t send in the forms with those. Do I need to worry about those forms or can I live without sending them?

@fujiwarae86 send those forms in ASAP, they are part of the instructions from the application site, they are there as back up files for USC admissions so if anything goes wrong or things aren’t congruent, they can check your online file/transcripts with these files. USC likes to have back ups and security with all the documents they handle. They also want you to certify with your signature and social security # to make sure that the transcripts you have sent in are legitimate and that you are responsible for any flaws or forgeries, MAKE SURE YOU SEND IT IN!!

^u don’t have to turn in any of those forms. i submitted my transcripts and LORs in person and they didn’t even care about the forms.

@bingo07

1) No, but you get 4 units for each… what a gift!

2) No.

Do I need to mail recommendation letters to USC if I am a transfer student? Because I didn’t see any recommendation letterrs require on their website. Thank you

It’s not required but some people use the freshman form to send recs and it is acceptable to do so.

Which department or address should I send my application mail to, if I apply to USC Marshall school? Where can I find that address on its website? Thnak you

@ noodlesli it doesnt matter which major you’re applying to, you send ALL documents regarding transferring to USC Office of Admissions.

yay i submitted my app! but the css profile is so confusing. is it ok if we make some mistakes on the css profile? b/c they’re gonna get our 1040s anyway right?

Hi Thank you so much xdzzrawr. Also there is no palce to put courses and grades down on the online application. So They will see the grades and courses taken from the college transcript right? Do I need to complete FASFA by feb 1? It also says on web that scholarship deadline is Feb 1. Is that mean I have to fill out a form about scholarship options? Thank you so much.
