there are no forms that are required if you applied online. you just need to send in your high school and college transcripts. the forms that come with them are just optional and would help them expedite the filing process. i didn’t bother filling them out tho

xdzzzrawr: I agree that taking Pass/No Pass isn’t the best choice to make when taking a class so important to your major. I just don’t understand; Biology and Chemistry are so easy, but I’m completely incompetent in Physics! Luckily for me, the only grade we currently have is our test score, which was only 18% of our grade; he hasn’t factored in HW, EC, and the upcoming tests. Thus, I have hope I will be able to push my grade up by the end of the quarter, but it’s definitely a tough situation to be in, especially at this time.

Going off with the Pass/No Pass topic … I am currently taking a Philosophy class (general ed and unrelated to my major) and as of right now, I am not sure if I am going to pull off a C/B.

If towards the end of the quarter, I have a feeling that I might be getting a C, would it be better off if to elect Pass/No Pass, than a letter grade; since they see it the same?

My feeling is that if I elect Pass/No Pass, it won’t impact my transferable GPA…

@dreamingusc yea sometimes when I hit a bump in a class, it gives me an incentive to work even harder, although physics is just ridiculously hard and sometimes hard to fathom, but I’m sure you can do it.

@sky-raptor that may be a choice you have to make yourself, because technically pass/nopass won’t change the numbers in your GPA, but if USC requests an SGR for you then either way it will still look like a C, though the numbers wont change. But if you have a high GPA now and you have 30 units + I would think it’s feasible to take the pass/nopass since it’s just a GE and if you get accepted, the pass/nopass won’t even matter since it’s a GE course. hope that helps.

@xdzzzrawr Thanks for the help … I think I will elect for the Pass/No Pass if I feel I am going to end up with a C.

Just noticed you’re attending UCR too? I am a first year, Pre-Business major here and if everything works out, I’m planning to transfer to USC for my second year.

ive been reading the freshman thread and USC decisions 2010. its crazy that high school seniors are finding out. kinda makes me excited, because it means we hear back relatively soon. anyone else check their status everyday?

@sky-raptor haha yea, I also go to UCR and am also a pre-business student, I’m a sophomore though, and let me tell you after 1 year of being here already, I do NOT want to stay here anymore! haha, if you ever have any questions about anything, I’ll be more than happy to help you, whether it be buying books, registering for classes, or what classes you should take as a pre-business major, feel free to ask, I would say I am pretty knowledgeable about UCR/USC. also do you live in the dorms?

@dreamingUSC haha I totally know where your coming from man. I have Physics focusing on Electricity and I just totally bombed my test cause of some mix up with a formula and because the teacher made those 2 questions worth 25% of my test score. But yeah don’t give up physics isn’t like math or chem; you actually have to understand what is happening and then answer the question because not all the questions are done the same way like in math. Try your best cause I know I am.

When is fafsa and the css profile due?

Both the FAFSA and CSS Profile were due on FEB. 2, 2010 for priority filing.

Don’t forget the CAL grant gpa verification form due on March 2, 2010 as well.

Keep in mind also, if you applied for any of USC’s scholarships/grants, that you should start to hear notification by March/April (if I remember correctly). I think the full award info will be viewable through OASIS.

I only got one letter.

:(

Can a student’s financial status be a factor for admission consideration? Meaning will USC ever deny admission because they assume the student won’t be able to afford the tuition?

No, they do not factor in financial aid into admission.

This is what my status says: We have received and are currently reviewing your application. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application.

also under documents needed it says none. Does anyone else’s say what was received, ie what documents they received??

ahhhhh I’m so spastic waiting for decision. I didn’t apply anywhere else this year so I’ve got another year at a cc if I don’t get in… but it’s not like my gpa is going to get any better so I’m just nervous.

daisydaisy - That is what it first says when they initially process the app. It generally then transfers to “we need more information” and shows they have not received your transcripts yet. Then either sooner or later they will get to processing your transcripts and it will reflect they have received them.

For some this is a quick process, for others it takes longer. Just depends on where your app and transcripts are in the big pile, so to speak.

oh… I see but my application was due december 1st because I applied to thornton… now I’m nervous. I know they were really strict about everything being in by december 1st (not a postmark deadline) so now I don’t know what to think. I’m 98% sure I had everything in on time??? blah.

well actually while I’m here, is anyone planning on living on campus next year?? I’d be a junior, so I don’t want to be the oldest person living in the dorms… I mean I’m sure people still live on campus but I don’t want to have to room with a bunch of freshman either. It’s not about cost really, I just want to have the experience I guess…

@daisydaisy - Ah ok you turned your app in by December 1st and it says you no longer need any documents. In Oasis, above where it says Required documents: none, did you try clicking on “Browse available forms in our document library.” as illustrated here: http://i.imgur.com/KTOKZ.jpg

On the next page it should show what they have received.

In regards to housing, I hope to live off campus cause I am older and don’t want to live in dorms. There are lots of off campus housing options nearby.

Does anyone know what documents are supposed to be posted under a finished Financial Aid Document checklist? I’m assuming this is where I would see my CSS Profile and FAFSA listed, but I don’t see either of those… unless submission also takes a few weeks to process.
