USC 2010 Transfer Thread

So, I was talking to a friend who was admitted as a transfer student last year and she got her decision in early May…which is pretty early considering the June 1st deadline.

AHHH! Good luck everyone!

Oh, and is anyone else in the same situation I’m in? In my FA documents…nothing is listed, despite the fact that I completed the FAFSA and CSS Profile on Feb 1.

Hey guys i applied as a transfer and was just wondering what you guys think about the difference between community college and university transfers is… some places I hear that USC gives priority to community colleges to allow students to finish at a four year university while other places I hear that it looks better transferring from a university.

I asked one of the admissions officers, as I was worried about CC students having priority over me; however, she said that because they were a private school, no student is given priority.

By the way, I officially created a group about two seconds ago: [College Confidential USC Transfers 2010 | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook). I created it solely with the intention of getting to know people a bit better (and because other College Confidential members have done the same in previous years). Please join so that I don’t look like a loner :)

^^ just joined.

joined as well :D.

just joined as well

i joined too!!

just joined–>my name on there is Edward Smith(fake name cause of USC’s sneaky facebook background checking)

You think USC really has time to investigate the fb account of everyone who applies?:)

rhandler33, what do you mean sneaky background checking? I know they do that for athletes, but for admissions?

I heard this from an admission intern at SC–they look at potential students facebooks often if they are “on the edge” They do not check EVERYONES facebooks, but i’d rather not take the chance if I’m close.

do you know what kind of stuff they look for?

drug use, excessive-alcohol use(obviously they realize kids drink, but having ALOT of pictures showing it could hurt you), and over-partying (again, they realize we have a life outside academics that includes partying)

Dude, so many people apply to USC for transfer that I seriously doubt they check many facebooks.

But anyways, totally joined the group!

I’m in ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

again, I am not saying they check EVERYONES. they check those on the border of in/out.

In other news, got an invite to join Phi Theta Kappa Honors society today. How can I inform USC of this??? I want this in big bold letters on my application haha

@ rhandler, I don’t know the whole deal with frats and honors societies, but they seem to be really common, people get mail all the time telling them to join an honors society and how it’ll bring you benefits, BUTTT you have to pay a small fee -_-, I don’t know how prestigious Phi Theta Kappa is and how well they present themselves academically, but I think there’s nothing you can do at this point to mention it, since the apps were submitted already =/

@xdzzzrawr - PTK is the big national invite-only honor society for 2 year colleges. It is very well known by admissions and many schools offer transfer merit scholarships specifically for ptk members as long as you show proof of membership(your certificate). I qualified for transfer merit scholarships through ptk at three of the schools I submitted apps to in fact. Each school that offers PTK membership usually has a chapter of it that acts like a student org. They train people in leadership, do community service work etc.

Phi Beta Kappa is the 4 year school equivalent.

Lol maybe I should start a new thread for this, but I was just wondering if anyone could help me out: Because I’m a massive idiot, I just now noticed that the USC Articulation Agreement says that language courses taken at a college while still in highschool will not fulfill the language requirement. I took Spanish 101 at a CC while I was still in high school, and I’m taking Spanish 102 during the spring session. Does that mean that neither class will count toward the language requirement? I mean, it would be stupid for them to count Spanish 102 but not 101. And if the two classes won’t count anyway, then I can just take Spanish 102 online and receive elective credit. Also, they said if you don’t finish your third semester of foreign language, you must take a placement test. If I test into their equivalent of Spanish 103, does that mean it won’t matter that my first two courses weren’t counted? Sorry if this is a really long question, but I’m REALLY freaking out. Thanks!
