I have one prerequisite left to take, and that is the pre-cal requirement. However, I have already signed up for classes, and unfortunately, pre-cal isn’t one of them.

Will that be okay with them if I take it in the spring?

Archie - Yes, that’s fine. USC will ask you for a Spring Grade Request, which means you probably won’t hear back on your application until July.

I was looking at the articulation agreement between USC and my school, and I noticed that my general biology course had (SYL) next to it and that this indicates that I have to show a course syllabus and make a petition. Does anyone know when this process should be undertaken or if anyone has encountered something like this? Thanks, oh and good luck to everyone on this thread! :D

Many of you with 3.5-.6 and higher have a pretty good chance of getting. I applied for Fall 2008 for sophomore from my CC. I attended only 1 year of my CC transferring with only 30 units. My GPA was about 3.65. I didnt have too many extracurricular but my personal essay was the deal breaker…also having a USC alumni write me a letter of recommendation couldnt have hurt a bit.

All in all, just work hard and maintain a steady GPA. And if you can, try to have at least one professor write you a letter of recommendation (it really helps tip the scale a bit)

My friend, whose dad is an alumn and his sister was a grad student there, still did not get into the school. I know USC has the “legacy” policy, but take it from me…I am the first generation of my family to attend USC. USC does not only look for scores and grades, they look for personality and depth of character. They want an applicant who can influence and change others…not cutthroat competitors. They will be screening for your ability or potentiality to help evolve the institute despite it’s already sterling reputation. FIGHT ON!

^^^ what do you think hurt your friend’s chances? Was he or she not in touch with themselves on that personal level that USC would like to see like how you described?

USPlacer - I think the best thing to do regarding the SYL course is to contact the admissions counselor from USC assigned to your college. They’ll be able to tell you what to do for sure.

I’m torn between applying for International Relations or History. I love both subjects, but I won’t be able to complete all of the IR pre-reqs before the end of Spring next year. I would be able to complete History. Should I let that make my decision? Not sure how highly USC weighs pre-req completion compared to GPA, units completed, GE’s completed etc.

For Marshall transfers, what level of math have you guys taken up to? I’ve taken Bus Calc but just dropped out of Calc 201 since it seems only UCLA and SCU require two semesters of Calc.

Marshall requires calc 1 or business calc which is about the same for consideration of admission. If you are interested in quantitative Finance then you can always take more math once you get to USC. There are other business programs at other schools that do require calc 2 also but USC is not one of them.

Check your CC’s articulation agreement with USC (if they have one). At my CC, Marshall wants either calculus 1 or two semesters of business calculus.

@Kulakai-Thanks for the info! From what I’ve read, the Bus Calc course at USC is a one semester course right? My school’s Bus Calc class is a one semester course so I’d be unable to take 2 semesters. I’ve taken Finite Mathematics and will be taking Business Statistics this semester though.

@ Lostmarch-I’m not at a CC so unfortunately we don’t have an articulation agreement with USC.

BTW if I got a B- in Micro is there even any chance I could get in? I got an A- in Macro but my Microeconomics teacher was absolutely terrible.

@Skyline - check to make sure your business stats course transfers over to theirs because the stats course I took at my CC does not transfer so I’ll have to retake it at Marshall.

To transfer, do you have to submit high school grades? SAT or ACT scores?
I will have 3 semesters at a California CC done!
Lots of EC’s, 4.0 GPA, maybe a 3.8 the last semester, Both parents went there! Chances??

@gypsyjas, If you have 3 semesters done then are you a sophomore this fall 2009? If you are a sophomore this year and applying into USC as a junior then your SAT and high school typically is not required, however, you need to have 30 units or more so that your SAT and high school grades will not be needed becuse they know you have spent quite a bit of time in college and your high school and SAT scores are irrelevant.

Even though both your parents went to USC gives you a great advantage in getting in, but this 30 unit requirement has nothing to do with the “legacy policy.”

This quote is from the application: “Transfer students who have accumulated fewer than 30 transferable semester units since finishing high school.”

Does anyone know what the pre-reqs for English majors are? Or is it just the GE requirements. I’ve looked everywhere and couldn’t find anything :/.
