USC 2011 Transfer Thread

@jaajaa20 - hey , im a broadcast journalism major as well ! , but no Annenberg does not have its own deadline, its the same, and the statements of intent is all together different from the admissions essay. When you are fillinf out the application, it can be pasted in the optional box or faxed/mailled to USC will the rest of the things you have to send. Good to see another broadcast journalim major on here ! :)

Sorry to hear that dreamupsided0wn… maybe you could email them about your situation? but I thought eng102 counted as a 130WRIT requirement, considering how my college’s 102 class counts as a 130WRIT.
Oh yes housing will be interesting, maybe they might(who am i kidding?) have some transfer dorms…but more unlikely things have happened. Like Christine O’Donnell hahaha

Yeah i know, especially at USC, the most spirited come on! But i know freshman have priority over transfers when it comes to housing, especially dorms :-(

Thanks for that futuretrojan. So i paste the statement in that optional box and thats it? I dont have to send it twice? They would know its for Annenberg or what?
I know right? I can’t wait to start the process  Btw what year are you in and are you transferring from a CC or university? Where are you in the application? What are you doing as for ECs and internships?

Oh yah and dream NO I’m at a CC right now

Pinstripe - my college won’t let me take ENG 101 or 102 because I got AP credit for those courses. D: USC’s response to me was kind of unhelpful so I’m just going to email my regional advisor.

jaajaa20 - to be honest, I wouldn’t mind living in an on-campus apartment. I have some friends there already who would probably be willing to help me find one.

About the letter of intent… FT21 is right, you can put it in the optional box, submit it using the Document Management System in USConnect, or mail it to Annenberg.

Sup, Marshall/ Business Admin applicant here. Applying for junior status.

Would it be a bad idea (/would it look bad) if I happen to take next semester off for personal reasons and not take any classes? I’ve already taken Macro, Micro, Intermediate Micro, Intermediate Macro, and Business Cal, and was accepted into USC last year but couldn’t afford it. I figure since I have the prereqs and a few of the suggested transfer courses (that Category I, II,… VI thing), the credits I take would just wind up transferring for elective credit, which is sort of a waste of time to me.
I’m not sure if it would look bad that I took a semester off and did nothing academic-related…

So what to do to pass the time?

Check out: [Freshman Year: University of Southern California on Vimeo](http://vimeo.com/5417701)

Best part is from 11:07 to 14:37.

More reasons to love USC.

yeah more reasons that make you want to go USC!

I sent an email to my USC admissions counselor, so hopefully I’ll get a reply soon. :

And yet another question: Does USC submit their decisions to your permanent address or current mailing address? I wanted to make sure that they send it to current mailing address because my permanent one is in another state…as you can imagine, it would be such a hassle to travel back and forth.

@jaajaa20 , yeah thats all you do, check the Annenberg site just to be sure though (i dont want to mislead you). But i am a freshman right now at a CC, i sent part 1 a while ago and just filled out the basics for part 2, the only college ec’s i have is volunteer work , i dont have any internships or anything because i dont have the time (im student athlete) , what about you, what ecs and internships are you involved in?

I just had the best day ever. Won tickets to see John Curran’s Stone at the opening night of the Chicago Film Fest. Edward Norton was there. I’m even more motivated to get into SCA now.

purplenurple - well if you got in before, I think you’ll be fine… no one can really say for sure though.

gousc92 - I’d imagine they’d send everything to your current mailing address.

Thanks for the video- just more readobs to Love USC! P.S Edward Norton is amazing! I know it’s non-sequitur.
Dreamupsided0wn why did they email you back?

purplenurple - Like dream said, you got in once before, so you’ll probably be okay. Or at least I hope you’ll be okay, as I took a semester off myself to travel for a film opportunity I didn’t wanna miss – and that wasn’t necessarily academic related. I dunno. Let’s cross our fingers.

dream - How exciting! How was the film?

So i had a quick question! Lets say i do not get accepted into my major. But can i still get accepted by USC? Like i’m applying for thornton, but if they deny me does that mean USC denies me?

I heard that USC has to accept you before you accepted into a specific school such as marshall or thornton at USC.

As I understand it, if your major rejects you, USC still may accept you as undeclared unless you’re applying as a junior. I’ve also heard about students who were rejected by USC, but accepted into the school they applied to (specifically SCA).

ledudeabides - it was decent… some parts were really good, but as a whole it lacked something. Also, I don’t really know anything about The Bible and there were a lot of religious allusions so I think I missed some. :P

ImGonnaMakeItBig - the others are right, if Thornton denies you you are still automatically considered for the Open/Still Deciding major in CLAS (provided you will enter as a freshman or sophomore). However, if you get rejected by USC, then your school will NOT accept you. You will not get a notice of rejection from the specific school either. In some cases, if your school really wants you they can appeal USC’s decision. Those cases are rare though.

Pinstripe - This is what the USC undergrad office said: “You may need to take the English class at a local junior or community college. Other than that, if you are unable to complete the English pre-requisite, you may want to look at other schools rather than USC.” :frowning: I’m kind of annoyed because it seems like they didn’t read my message… in the first one I said my CC didn’t offer an advanced comp class this semester or next, and their response was “Take the class next semester.” Which I can’t do, because my CC is not offering it. Which is the reason I emailed them in the first place. I hope my regional adviser gives me some better advice. :(

dream - Is there no other CC in your city/surrounding area that offers it? It might be a bit of a hassle, but an old CC classmate took a specific history class during winter session at a neighboring CC because our school didn’t offer it. He was trying to transfer to USC as well and got in. I hope your regional advisor’s able to give you more specifics! :

@dreamupsided0wn

Yeah. Definitely contact your regional adviser. When I started to learn about USC’s transfer process I emailed USC directly but got very vague generic answers. I contacted my regional adviser and she answered my questions with great detail.

If that doesn’t work out, you can always do what @ledudeabides suggested. In addition to completing the course, it will show your determination and how far you’ll go to get into USC.

@imgonnamakeitbig good question! That was one of my questions too. So it seems that we can still get accepted even if we don’t get in our school especially if you’re a sophomore then you’ll be undeclared. Are you entering as a sophomore?

@futuretrojan yeah unfortunately i don’t have any ECs at the moment except some club but I’m searching really hard for a good internship.
