What science classes are you guys taking?

Out of the 5 classes that I am taking this semester, 3 units wont transfer to USC , because it is the very first english class that is to be taken ( I am taking the transferable english class during winter). I just want to know if USC will consider my grade from that class?
I got a B- on my essay today ( I think only 1 person got an A ) , so I am quite worried about it. I have three more papers to write, so I will work much harder.
IF INCASE I get a B, would they wonder why I got it? And would they take in consideration that it is honors english not regular?
If I get an A in english, then I will have a 4.0 overall. If USC wont count non transferable class into my GPA, then I will have a 4.0 for sure. I am sorry for so many questions ! You guys are awesome .

Oh and I emailed the admissions office to clarify the 30 plus units SAT SCORE requirement.

“As the directions indicate, you do not need to include SAT scores if you will have more than 30 credits”.

Aspiring sophomores- I just wanted to make sure that since we all want to get in as ‘sophomores’ , we would not nee to send in scores ( if we have more than 30 units) .

Do we HAVE to complete the recommended/general education courses in order to transfer?

My school doesn’t offer some “global” courses that it requires, for example.

Economics, Economics/Mathematics, International Relations (Global Business) - FL [foreign language requirement]
ECON 203 (Principles of Microeconomics), ECON 205 (Principles of Macroeconomics), MATH 118 (Fundamental Principles of the Calculus) or MATH 125 (Calculus I)

Is this required to take if you are applying as a business major? Because I talk to the admission counselor and they said that want to complete Math Calculus and writ 130 by spring 2011 and they recommend us to an accounting class and GE courses

So far I have 38 credits I THINK i will be able to transfer.
they are standard “intro to this”, “intro to that” courses

but what if i end up falling short?
i don’t think my two history courses (US history to 1800 and US history from 1800) will transfer since they’re a bit too specific, but they’re the only “intro to US history” courses my school offers, which is why i’m not sure.

i don’t want to send my test scores & hs transcript,
SO
will colleges request them or will they just reject me since i don’t have those documents?
in other words will they wait until i send them in for them to review my app?

@Monologua - the science class I am currently taking is called Astronomy 112 - The Solar System.

@nainasethi13 - that is a good question, and it is answered in the transfer brochure :):

“Remedial courses are not transferable.”

“USC calculates your grade point average on the basis of your grades in all USC-transferable courses, including grades of D and below. Plus and minus grading is taken into account.”

@belief - according to USC’s transfer brochure: “Seventy-five percent of your transferable courses should satisfy General Education or other Core courses, or subject prerequisites for your intended major. We do not, however, expect you to complete all General Education courses at your current institution, as we encourage transfer students to take advantage of our General Education program.” As for your other question, regardless of how many credits you will have you are REQUIRED to submit your high school transcript as proof of graduation. So, yes, if you do not submit your HS transcript, they will reject you. If you will have at least 30 credits, then you do not have to send test scores. You may want to double check your school’s articulation history with USC to see if those courses will transfer. Error;

@funnypunjabi - according to the USC transfer brochure: “Business/Accounting Prerequisites for direct admission to the Marshall School of Business: Writing 130 (Analytical Writing), Writing 140, MATH 118 (Fundamental Principles of the Calculus.) MATH 125 may be substituted for MATH 118.”

Wait a second! So the grade point average is only on transferable courses? I took an Intro to Chem class at SMC last semester and got a B… Does that mean that they wont count it as part as my transfer GPA? That would be awesome!

snowboard129 - I guess not. Now that I think about it though, they might’ve been referring to your USC GPA and not your transfer GPA… someone double check!

By the way guys, if anyone (mainly Pinstripe) is interested - the updated articulation history with my school says that the ENG 102 class I got AP credit for will fulfill the Writing requirement… sooooo I’m just going to make my CC let me take it.

Hi, I am an international student and i am a freshman at UC Santa Barbara. I’ve only learned for about 3 years so my english is really limited. My SAT I score was alright but my SAT II were pretty decent. I want to do business admin and USC is my dream school. I really want to transfer to Marshall but i heard the acceptance rate for Marshall is quite low <21%> and i just looked at the 2010 accepted decision thread for USC and most of the people who got in have avg gpa of >=3.85 .

I just want to ask that do you guys think i should stay at UCSB;major in econ; wait for another 4 years and hope for the MBA at Marshall or i should drop out of ucsb and go to a community college and wish for best luck. I was really determined of going back community college and get a good GPA then transfer but once I found out that both usc and ucla have really low acceptance rate for econ major, it discourages me.

If i choose to go to a community college, i will drop out of ucsb after this fall quarter, so i dont have that many credits < im taking 12-quarter-credit> which is equivalent to 8-semester-unit

Thank you in advance.

Edit: If you will have at least 30 credits, then you do not have to send test scores===> I am confused. Does that mean 30 credits by the time of applying which is fall 2010 or by spring 2011?

Ya, but doesn’t usc say that you will start with a fresh new GPA when you transfer? I guess Ill email them.

snowboard129 - you’re right! my mistake.

tantungnam - the average GPA according to the transfer booklet is lower, I believe… I think as long as you have a 3.5+ you have as much of a chance as anyone else with that GPA. Plus, CC is not an accurate pool if you’re looking for an average GPA sample; the people on here tend to be overachievers. If you really want to go to USC, then apply! The 30 credits refers to 30 semester credits by the end of spring 2011.

@ dreamupsided0wn: thank you, you really just boost my hope up. I am confident that i can get straight A’s but i dont know. I am really good at math and econ-related <im typical asian ^_^) but my english still has many flaws so i’m afraid that for art-history-writing class, my grades wouldnt be that high. After all, it’s Marshall we’re talking about so hopefully things would work out.

If 30 credits are by the end of spring 2011, i can still apply but i dont know what i should fill in for my current college? I mean im going to a community college which is different than the college I’m about to fill out <ucsb> Do you think that would be a problem?? And my AP score wouldnt count towards the 30 credits requirement right???</ucsb>

Favorite ice cream flavor?

tantungnam - correct, AP credit does not count towards the 30 credits. I’m not sure what you should fill in for current college. Try emailing USC, that seems like a specific question.

kaymac - Heath bar.

Well, I better head out. Sociology test at 11.

I am confused!

Just submitted my PART 1 app

I am transferring from CC with 60 units so I am a junior.

Do we need to send in our High school transcripts and SAT scores? if so when and how, will it be on par 2 of the application?)

AlexChristopher - you do not need to send in SAT scores if you have 30+ semester units. HOWEVER, everyone is required to send in a high school transcript as proof of graduation. If you have over 30 units, they will not take that transcript into consideration.

Thank you!

so in PART 1 when it asks for them I can just leave them blank pretty much?

So we just retrieve our high school transcript and than send it into USC it sounds like a dumb question but is there a specific address? is this info on Part 2?

Hey Dreamupsided0wn- sorry ive been in hiatus trying to cram for some midterms(which i think i did pretty good )You should definitely tell your school that you have to take eng 102! although it’s a bit weird that you already completed the WRIT130 req via AP credit-but pretty cool!
As for you and everyone else I was at our local college fair today when I saw the USC stand and i picked some of their pamphlets…and I found some not so great news for us. THE NEW ADMITTED TRANSFERS(FALL 2010) AVERAGE GPA IS 3.7…damn those last years kids! I really was hoping it would stay at 3.5…I guess I have to make sure I keep my 4.0 :(
