USC 2011 Transfer Thread

USC participates in the Cal Grant program, and transfer students receive the same level of aid as freshmen. USC does not, however determine your eligibility for Cal Grant - the California Student Aid commission does. If you meet all of the CSAC eligibility requirements, then you will receive* a Cal Grant.
Cal Grant eligibility and application instructions: [Grants for College Students, College / School Grants, Financial Aid and Grants: Calgrants.org](http://www.calgrants.org/index.cfm?navId=22)

*Each year for the past several years the Cal Grant program has been considered for reduction and/or elimination. Please keep yourself updated on the status of Cal Grants. USC will calculate your need using the CSS/Profile and will provide financial aid based on that need. If Cal Grant is available to you, you will receive it. If it is not, USC will meet your need with other funds.

As soon as I read that Cal Grant questions, I was ready to PM alamemom to let her know but she beat me to it. :P

snizzle77 - the 30 units must be transferable. As for GPA, it’s been asked a few times but no one knows for sure.

Any one going to “transfer days” tommorrow?

Fight on

Jarvis

For those of who who started school back in mid August like I did, we are a little more than half way done with the semester! , keep it going everyone, work hard, set smart goals for yourself and stay focused! This goes to everyone else as well!

Fight On!

Hey guys!
I’m currently going to UC Irvine, but I really want to go to USC. How hard would it be to transfer from a UC to USC? I’m currently an electrical engineering major at UCI (freshman). Is it hard to get in for EE?

Thanks in advance! :)

Do transfers need to have a specific recommendation letter form? I couldn’t find anything about RL on the application website.

Hi guys I am new to this thread and am really looking forward to transfer to USC for business. I am a freshman as of now at Cal State Long Beach.

My question is very specific.
I plan on having 30 units completed by the end of the Spring semester and each of my units are very crucial to obtain.

I looked at USC’s articulation agreement with Cal State Long Beach and there are the letters (WSY) next to the class Africana Studies (AFRS 100). This class serves as the writing requirement at Long Beach but the articulation says this:

“WSY (Writing and syllabus requested): This course (by itself or with other courses) may satisfy the lower division writing requirement. Submit articulation petition with the syllabus and all argumentative writing required for this course.”

Here is a link to the articulation agreement:

Error;

My question is how do you do this and what does it really mean?
Will it count as credit no matter what but just not satisfy the lower division writing requirement?

An answer to this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hey guys. I’m currently going to a cc and plan on having 31 units completed by the end of spring with a gpa of 3.7+. Will having one W kill my chances of getting in??

@pugluverg,

According to the articulation agreement’s course code definitions, USC may grant the fulfillment of the lower division writing requirement with that course. However, AFRS 100 is an alternative to the ENGL 100 composition course at CSULB.

The lower division writing course required for USC is generally a “critical thinking and writing” course. At CSULB, it would be the equivalent of ENGL 102. In the situation that your AFRS 100 course does not fulfill the writing requirement, you will be able to receive transfer credit for that course.

I go to Long Beach, so let me know if you need anything else.

@jood: i dropped one of my comp sci major-related class but I’m currently major in Business so even though i have a W on my transcript, it wont affect negatively to my transfer; especially the class i dropped doesnt satisfy for any GE requirement. That’s what my advisor told me; however, you might consider this…

“While W’s have no effect on your GPA, W’s do not look good on your transcript, especially if the class you withdrew from pertains to your major.”

I need help.
I just reviewed my articulation history again.
The English 1 class I am taking right now does not satisfy the lower division writing requirement , BUT it is mentioned as a transferable course under the english section.
The english 2 I will take during winter WILL satisfy the lower division writing requirement.
So, when fall semester ends , should I write that I have completed 15 transferable units instead of 12 ( english included in the 15) . And by the end of the winter, I will be done with 21 units ( english 2 worth 3 units ) .

By the end of this year I am hoping to have a 3.36 GPA. What do you guys think my chances are for chemical engineering or biochemistry? Should I even bother filling out the second part of the application?

Okay I am back =D
no matter what the chances are
here I am for a second shot

Getting close to the bottom. Bump.

How do you know what english class will satisfy the writing requirement? I am from an out of state school.

Laxlove - check your school’s articulation history with USC. Error;

I’m pretty sure I have nothing to worry about and it’s just a system error, but when I look at my application, it says that “The committee has acted on your application, and we have mailed notice of the decision”. Is anyone else getting this? Could this because I sent in a letter of financial hardship and they made a decision on that?

I would go with it and make a deposit!

(That is the wording they use when they send out decisions, so it is probably just a system update for the current admissions cycle - hopefully a preview of what it will say next June! :slight_smile: )

Does anybody know how many transfers apply to USC astro. Engineering program and the average gpa for Viterbi Admits?

are most of you guys putting undecided as your second major or actually posting a second major?

does it make a difference say if your school didnt except you for that major, but USC still accpets you how hard would it be to go back to that school and try to get that major?

im still undecided on whether to put undecided or a second choice
